How many anglers fishing St. Mullins are practising catch and release, what is the Shad bag limits, size limits, and so on. St. Mullins is the main Shad fishing area in Ireland, the species is allready under pressure, Should this area not be a total catch and release area if not all ready ?. Any information will be greatly appreciated, Cheers.

Have to agree with dbrock, all anglers down there seem to be there just for the sport.

Was down there sat evening and sunday morning, pleased to say all out fish went back ok, and didnt see any dead fish in the water at all.

Great to meet and chat with anglers from all over the country, and they seemed much friendlier than most you bump into on the beach.

By the way denis, 3 old boys fishing next to us had said the specimen size was 1.1kg, you may want to check it out.

I went down this evening, fished from 5.45pm to 7pm, I had landed 7, biggest .95kg, and dropped a much bigger fish hooked under the gills as I tried to lead it to the net
As long as you net them, unhook them in the net, and lower them back into the water in the net, they all swim away, no need to throw them back in from 6' up the bank as I saw a lot of people doing.
I was thought that when fishing for shad you strike the bite immediately, that way they are nearly all hooked in the mouth, and never deep hooked, and not one of my seven threw the hook, its a great way to spend a few hours.
All caught on a 13.5g blue and silver cobra.
