Heard about a young lad going fishing with his mates recently. Insisted on Granny dropping him off "round the corner." Later on, Granny went for coffee and found him in the coffee shop with his mates - 4 young ladies, all armed with fishing tackle. No catches where they first headed for, so they went to Carrickfergus Harbour, where they caught 78 mackerel. Granny knows a smoker, so they're all going to have Smoked Mackerel for a while!

Lots of small joey's at the back of the East pier in Dun Laoghaire the last couple of nights, only thing that annoyed me was a guy who taught it was funny to drop kick the joey's back into the water, angler me Bollxx.

Doing the same to him should make it a bit less funny for him . As I've said before you can't polish a t**d
Wed Sep 24, 2014 1:56 pm
You can polish a t**d! You just have to freeze it first!!
Seriously though, anything happening in cork harbour? Was out monday and got nothing. Outer harbour. Not even a pollack! Very surprised.

He's just a bollix. I've come across this type of carry on before. I've asked fellas, in a calm and polite way, why are they doing what ever it is they are doing. It's amazing how sheepish they become.

There was 4 of them together, a couple of them were in their 30s and he was in his early 20s, it was only him doing it and I never heard the older lads passing comment to him about doing it, so I imagine if I said anything I would have got abuse of the 4 of them.

Just back from howth, best day of the year! Haven't ever seen it like this before. Sprat were leaping ashore. It was a circus, everyone was reeling in as fast as they could, a trio of seals were diving for them as fast as they could. Everyone well behaved, lots of good fun. After two hours I had a full bad so decided to head home. Lots of gutting required.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that about of prey species lost like that is a good thing.

My understanding is the mackerel chased the sprat onto the beach. ie mackerel there in good numbers. That's what I was saying is good to see
Fri Sep 26, 2014 9:12 am
Was out yesterday evening and the sprat were being washed up , with birds 5 yrds from shore getting their fill, also 2 seals in the mix. I started thinking that i could have a field day, only to find that every time i hauled in fish they were tiny!
I got 2 keepers out of about 50, packed up after and hour. The size of fish is so much smaller then before, it's nearly not worth spending tiem going for them at this rate.
Not the first time this year that the size of them has stopped me fishing either.
Something is wrong out there
