Cobh at high water might be your best chance

They've been giving themselves in Cobh all week . All jokes aside there have been large breaks of mackeral along the piers and quays on the evening tides all week.

Was down in Bantry this evening and I saw a fella getting 2 on his second cast (about an hour before high tide). Had to go then, but chances are they were around in numbers.

13 mack off Poolbeg @ lighthouse, conditions were bad, got there about 2:30pm wind was very gusty blowing up on the pier wall from the south, making the rocks at low water VERY SLIPPY!! At low water was fishing on the rocks and 2 Very experienced local lads fell Thankfully nothing serious just scraps and bruises, I raced over the rocks to make sure they were ok, one lad got traped between rocks but with a hand managed to get himself out and continued fishin. Lads, please becareful on the rocks!! though it didnt rain, mist from the sea was blowing onto the rocks making them really slippy, if you must do the rocks, keep your body (centre of gravity) down low, and always have three points of contact Finished up with a pollock and one of the lads gave me a nice pollock as thanks

Myself and a mate went out to Howth Harbour at low/slack tide last night. He caught 10 or so, landing 7. Fish everywhere

Well arrived down last night to the quay (near the train station) to scare them all away , did mange to get a couple for the dinner so not too bad.

Howth; 3 caught today on a dropping tide. A couple of big ones

got about 13 on the spinner off the back of dunlaoire the other day tide was full in an put them all back there was 2 polish guys beside me taking everything they caught sickens me,the night before a polish guy with a black bag over his back struggling to get back up the rocks

There is a theory which has some scientific backing that mackerel that are handled die due to infection entering through the skin where the mucous membrane has been damaged during handling, so putting them back may not be such a good conversational step.

still a few breaks today along the quays in Cobh this morning. Even noticed crew from the docked liner fishing off the back (I think it was the silver cloud)

Fished Cork harbour last thursday night. Between the point and Whitebay. Mackeral a min. for an hour - two hand lines going. Not the biggest Mackeral ever but idea bait size @ 8 - 10".
Freezer full, I took the first of them to Inch beach Saturday night - no good - took me a few hours to decide the place was unfishable with weed!

Best to shake them off the hook rather than handling them if your returning them back to sea

if the hooks are deep in the side of the mouth wet towel around the fish or wet gloves, take the hook out and back into the sea, if ya shake off make sure ya do it over the sea
I've read a report regarding that issue with mack and just to be safe I use this method on most fish (wet towel or gloves) as we all want bigger fishies

Tried hampton cove in balbriggan for an hour 7-8 all quiet plus had to put up with a fellow "angler" with the usual big cheep Beachcaster and huge weight on the end displaying perfect hold the rod by the butt while trying to hold ur balance technique,after the second near miss of the weight at my head decided to call it a night,macks are a blessing and a curse,they are great to catch but they always bring out the gobshites ,ah well a few weeks and they'll pack up their rusty feathers till next year

None of us can escape d experts wit d rusty feathers and reels that never saw a bit of oil,anyway was workin in ballina today and shot over to enniscrone for an hour to try for a few,wasn't the only one trying,not even one.

Was out for a walk with herself and happened to end up in the harbor on the ebb tide and now I can understand why there is few fish there... BOY are the SEALS big there.... saw one of them swim past me as I was on the end of the pier where the barrairs are that let you slip through to the edge.. Very dirty harbor as well.
