finally got on the mackerel over the weekend

, I've been prospecting in the kayak recently
around skerries... found a spot with about 30 cormorants and the terns were going mad so had
a lash there yesterday and sunday, took close to 50 over the 2 days... was plagued with giant
sand eels taking the feathers, largest sand eel was over 30cm

Helvick again 3 hrs yesterday.1.5 hrs either side of high tide. Zip!Nada! Nothing! & Zilch. One of the local fishermen said one boat had been out all day and came back with half a box of macks and 2 pollock!
Hoping the Youghal mack feast means they're moving this way...

Cheers Gilks for the in depth reply - some good info as have just taken up fishing again, used to fish youghal in cork a fair bit back in the day - decent at the time for codling/bass
Anyways, am chancing SeaPoint again tonight on the rising tide so we'll see what happens.
Going for 4 blanks in a row - thought mackie fishing was meant to be easy

Is anyone catching any mackerel in Cobh? Was there over the weekend, no mackerel at all.
Was wondering if it was the same for anyone else that fishes in Cobh.
Where are all the fish gone from Cork?

Sorry to hear about the no Mackerel's around in different area's when it should be peak of mack season... I've been going around Clare the past several weeks and is doing some Mack bashing in between my fishing sessions andI am so happy that I have never gone out and back with less than 30 macks for a 2 hour bashing... its always madness and my back is a bit aching due to those sessions.

. I suggest to those who are missing Macks to drive around Clare and join the fun... my neighbors are always having some for grilling whenever I come back from a session.

Try fishing mackerel strips on the bottom about 20 or 30 feet out from the quay. We had loads of mack using this method last year when the feathers were getting nothing. Great fun on light gear. Might be worth a try.
