Well MC,
Were those ones caught on a boat?
I tried a few spots in the Ringskiddy area for macks around HT yesterday, the water was flat calm and dead quiet unfortunately. Not a fish to be seen.
Looked across with at the Deep Water Quay with some longing. Is it really possible to fish that spot these days (I didn't bother asking the security guard!!).
I was hoping to catch a few late macks for the table before the weather broke (in our house 10 mackerel = 1 dinner and 3 well fed kids!).

No, shore. I passed by the lads on Sunday. Foul hooked one myself with a surface popper. Hard to avoid them.

Ok, I think I have to be honest now!!!
My kids devour mackerel, and I was really hoping to provide dinner at least once more before the season is finished (1 or 2 fish is noooo good).
I thought my last chance had gone when I fished to no avail in Cork Harbour last Fri., but the posts here are killing me as it seems the macks still think it's summer at some spots around the country.
Are they STILL around?
Are they showing up around Co. Cork?
Do I have to drive to Kerry?
Am I the only one in Ireland who can't get a dozen on demand?

hi blakiemc
fished cork harbour on 2nd and it was full of macks and herring, now i was in a boat near the turbot bank, but i also had them close inshore on the crosshaven side.
surface was alive with herring.
found that moving feathers didnt work, just lowered them down and held them steady, bites were finnicky but was still getting doubles and trebles.
good luck
