Carig West, 28-01-07

People: Me and a Mate

Duration: 5pm -9pm

Tide: low water 7.40pm

Weather: ok mild and calm

Bait: Mack, lug, eels, gutted lug, squid

Rigs: 2 hook clipps, 3 hook flapper, 1 hook clips.

Results: 1 dog, bootlace conger and a lobster!

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:: Arrived at 5 and set up before darkness, nice and calm, thought a good possiblity of decent whiting and dabs. Not a bite for the first 2 hrs, so varied rigs, hooks sizes and distance. About 8 my mate got a small conger, then 20 mins later I got a dog out far on eel tipped with mack. Nothing much else of note, poor fishing yet again. Think ill leave this venue for a while. Heading to Kiltery pier tomorrow with Gearoid so ill report back with the results. Later

Kiltery Pier 29-01-07

People: Me and Gearoid

Duration: 2-5pm

Tide: High water at 3.30pm

Weather: nice and calm, very mild.

Bait: Mack, Eels, Lug, Squid, Prawn, Wraps

Rigs: 3 hook flappers size 4 15lb snoods. 1 up 1 down clipped.

Results:Me 5 dabs biggest 23, 1 flounder 32 and a goby. Gearoid 5 dabs biggest 26 and a flounder 28.

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: Fishing was decent, nice to get a few fish. I stayed in close most of the day scratching for dabs and maybe a whiting, had one rod out far but got snagged and didnt bother setting it back up. Gearoid had one rod in close and one out far. Got a nice flounder of 32 which gave a good account of himself coming in. Gearoid missed a decent fish, probably a ray. Handy practise for next weekend's comp in Wexford. Most fish caught at high water and next hour of the going.

We'll see!

It great to see your reports up on the web. There doesn't seem to be any run of whiting this winter. A bit frost forecast for the weekend might help.

Did the dabs go for anything in paticular?

Donagh

Mon Jan 29, 2007 9:56 pm

Dabs took mainly lug tipped wit mack or squid, fixed lead cause of the tide. Ya hopefully the frost will bring some whiting in.

Mon Jan 29, 2007 11:28 pm

good report lads - and loving the pictures

just wondering what did you mean by wraps in the bait section?

Tue Jan 30, 2007 1:05 am

Thanks, ya new phone comes in handy for the pics alrite.

Wraps are gutted lug. Can be very good for flats.

Fished Kiltery this evening was out digging for the weekend today and dug some extra lug, had 3 dabs and a flounder. Gearoid had a rockling. Stayed for 2 hrs 5-7 weather crap so left, fishing wasnt too great either.

Mon Feb 05, 2007 9:54 pm

People: Me, ViperSD and the rest in the comp

Duration:1pm to 6pm

Tide: dont know

Weather: Sunny calm, went misty about 3.30

Bait: Mac, eels, squid, prawn, maddies, lug, whites, gutted lug, mussel.

Rigs: scratching traces , 3 up flappers

Results: 2 whiting both 20cm and a flounder 24. Had about 4-5 undersize dab, 10+ undersize whiting and one codling

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: So left Kerry at 6.30am and arrived at check in about 10.30 after eatin in Gorey. Drew pegs and headed to the beach. We were pegged close together on the same beach. We fished courtown north. I was on peg 70, fishing wasnt great. I had a whiting 20cm first cast and thought it would be half decent. Not many fish landed in first hour around me. I had about 6-7 undersize dabs and whiting in first hour. Too many fish around 19cm, annoying. Next two hours I managed to catch two more counters, flounder 24 and another whiting 20. Undersize fish then went quite. In the last hour I had another 7-8 pin whiting and a 10cm codling lol, but still no counters. Last 2 casts were 2 treble whiting all undersize.

To my left was a free peg 69, 68 had one whiting, 71 2 whiting and a flounder, Sean on 72 had 2 flats 29 and 33(won longest flat) and I think 73 and 74 had 4 fish each with a coalie of 34 in there.

Few pics

Sorry I didnt recognise you at all, if I did I would have went over. Fishing was fairly poor along our strectch alright. Nice flounder alright. He didn't agree to giving his team mate half the prize at all though :D

People: Me Gearoid and John Lynch

Duration:6.30-9.30

Tide: High water 8

Weather: Cold, North Easterly wind

Bait: Mac, lug, eels, squid, mussel, maddies, wraps, prawn.

Rigs:3 hook flappers, wishbones

Results:Me: 10 rockling biggest 25, 6 flounder biggest 24, 2 poor cod, 1 dab and a 4lb thornback ray. John: 10 flounder 5 dab and a rockling
Gearoid: 7 flounder 3 rockiling and a poor cod

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: Decided to fish a venue a a few mile from where the lads got there ray. Arrived at 6.15 and fishing for 6.30. Weather was freezing with the north easterly biting cold. I started fishing one rod in close, as did Gearoid and John fished 2 rods, one out far and one in close.

We were getting plenty of fish from the start on 3rd cast I had a nice treble flounder, John had the same few mins later. John got two-three lovely dab out far. I then decided to set up my second rod and try for one as there was none in close. So out with Conoflex oblivion and put a wishbone out as far as I could. First cast nothing , then second cast I could feel something knocking, results in a double, nice ray and dab. Next cast small poorcod. This was about 9.30 and we decided to head home.

So a total of 47 fish and 5 species in three hours, not a bad evenings fishing.

Few pics
