This must have been the earliest that we're getting this run ion macks... water went warm early I suppose. Elderly neighbors are happy with fresh macks, friends as well including my freezer for bait. These will be the theme until June 15 strikes!
And they taste good by the way! Those familiar with the background would know where in Clare this is.
Nice report and photo

as a matter of interest were they out a fair distance or close enough to the shore?

Very close to the shore. Most of the time we get them almost in front of us reeling in after casting far.

No recent reports guys?
I've been heading out to Howth at least twice a week and still no sign of them!
Water temp looks fine, weather is lovely, have they decided to vacation somewhere else this year?
I'm thinking of building push net for shrimp so at least I'd have something to fall back on.
I reckon' I might have some look on Portmarnock beach at low tide.

So far in the Cork area I've tried Kinsale,Cobh,Ringaskiddy,Aghada, Ballycotton and Monkstown with nothing showing so far, this time last year I had the freezer full, I have been hearing reports from people working on trawlers that the fishing is also 2 months behind itself because of the storms we had, im starting to use this excuse aswell

Nothing in ballycotton on sunday at high tide at four o clock. However talking to a few guys who were out in boats said there were plenty quite close to shore not far from the lighthouse. So good news surely.
Regarding timing, last year mackerel didnt hit the south coast properly until the second week in july. I was out a lot during that period of amazing weather at the start of july and there was no sign then

I will be out this Friday and will let you know guys how it goes. Conditions look ideal again. Fishing and barbecue.
We'll see if those previous weeks were a fluke.

Seen a couple of heads fishing the flats before the lighthouse so popped over and watched while fishing,
from what I seen they're childer also went to bed hungry ... Nice day to be out though

Had lots of big macks in Cork harbour entrance on western side within 30 mtrs of shore, next to rocks where people often fish for them, not sure of its name, but has a lifering on the rocks.
