North Antrim Beach 2 PB's. Bass and Flounder 11-01-13.

Great result Cathal, that's a lovely looking bass in particular. My pb flounder is also 39cm but if I remember correctly it was well short of 1.5lb.

Very little happened on yesterday evenings tide, it looked the part but several anglers only managed a couple of rockling and a couple of modest flounder.

Cheers Seanie, very close to a double shot alright, pity dragging in both leads all but killed the fight of the bass. Would have been an awesome double shot if it had been on one rod only.

Cheers Nicefish, 3lb is a modest pb for a bass but I aint complaining, I didnt think I'd ever get a bass in my own county. Might beat that further south during the year!

Couple of very nice fish lads ,Antrim always seem to give up a few Bass this time of year . Do u get them in summer time .

Cheers Plumster, I dont think the bass are met very often on these north coast beaches in summer, I havent tried it myself, but I havent heard a lot of talk about it either. I think they start featuring in anglers catches from September through to now, this years success is my first this far north so I dont have a pile of experience of it. I think its Autumn/winter up here.

Yeah that was a good one Brian, getting a decent flounder after commenting on your really big ones the day before. Thats the first bass of 13, hopefully not the last.

Yeah it was a lovely condition fish, they really are lovely fish, no wonder they fascinate people so much- good fighters, good eaters and keen to take lures and flies. Great fish from an angling point of view. Pity last night didnt produce.

Was a lovely bass John, super order. Yeah this flattie, to be precise about it, it was 38.5cm long and 1lb 7.5ounces. Weighed on a good set of kitchen scales. The bass was about a quarter of an ounce under 3lb. It was about 2mm off 50cm, which was a bit of a surprise, I didnt think it'd be the 50.

Aye Fagan, the best of luck with the bass hunt. I'd recommend a trip south. They are just hens teeth up round here compared to south Leinster and Munster. I'll be making the pilgrimage south for the silver boy this year again. Its still fishing, theres no guarantees but way better chance down south,

Cheers Kev, its been an eye openner of a winter. Put a bit of time in since the first bass as you might imagine and scored a 2nd time. But I didnt report the blanks and handful of tiddlers in the interim. It took quite a few treks to hit the jackpot, but sure thats what it takes. Every blank is a blank closer to the goods!!

You and Paul headed this way anytime soon?

Nice one mate, the bass is a nice deep fish and that flounder looks massive in the pics. Keep them coming and it is nice to see and hear about a few fish up that way again.

Aye Kerrywez, they were nice ones. Wouldve tried something this weekend but its gone arctic, prob the same down your way too. Nice all the same, just unfishable- good to look at!!
