it does happing how do you think white trout or sea trout become a sea trout the migreat from the river to sea and its the salt water that breaks its skin to give it the white color more than likely it was a slob trout

Fri Nov 25, 2005 10:07 am

....and the pike was probably just minding it's own business, trying to evolve into a baracuda when it got yanked rudely out of it, right? You wouldn't last long as a fish, lad. You'd be out of it at the first sign of a hook, line and sinker....

Have my doubts as well about pike in salt water (could have been washed out a river) but apparently they are to be found in brackish water....

http://www.arkive.org/species/ARK/fish/ ... _info.html

As for brown trout in Salt water, I don't see why not, at least to the untrained eye. A sea trout heading to sea is more or less exactly the same colour as a brownie, also if it was a sea trout living in a kelp bed, he would take on the surrounding colour as camaflauge.

On a side note : Broken Skin?????

but apparently they are to be found in brackish water[/quote]

he was fishing out of rathlin which is the atlantic which the last time i checked is far from brackish

I think he's either a poor navigator or a bit weak on species identification.

Or just spins a great yarn. I've laughed a leg off at this thread. Sheer quality.

Right up there with the great threads of the year. Like the Chesil beach dump story.

Oh no, you're right. I can see this one run and run. I'm waiting for yer man to tell us what sort of a boat he was out in. My bet is it was a bubble and he sailed home up the Bann in it
