now why is it everyone seems to be able to catch sea trout except me?

cheers brian. just stick with drew. that boy could fall into a sewer and come up with a trout between his teeth :o     .

saving private brian wrote:some nice beaches back there al.theres so many.i have an idea where you where..well done guys

cheers brian. it is a lovely part of the world with so much fishing potential. i think we could spent a month there fishing a different mark every day and still not get round them all. we have a few tope marks out there to try from the shore, but i think we'll leave it until later in the year to give them a go. sure it just gives us a reason to justify another trip out that way

dave316 wrote:Very nice, would love to go there, looks awesome and great fishing too!!

thanks dave. i was just shocked at how few anglers were out and about that way when we were there. if we had beaches like that up here we'd be out fishing every day :P

JOHN1 wrote:Report of the year me thinks  great sport lads, thats a fantastic trout you got yourself jordan very well done 8)

thanks john. i just wish i had have been able to get him catching that one on video  when we saw the forecast before leaving belfast i just left the video camera at home   . but that trout gave a great account of it's self in the shallows leaping clean out of the water 2 or 3 times. heart stopping stuff as i was convinced it was gonna throw the hook. but jordan wo'nt let me forget about it any time soon   he's already told anyone with a pair of ears about his scrap with it on the tiny rod

Tom H wrote:You boys do get about a bit :!: Some nice fish that you got just a pity about all the lice..

sure you know us tom    no journey is too far in my book under the prospect of some decent fishing     i felt really sorry for those poor fish with the lice  i've never seen so many big lice on a single fish. some of those trout had the lice eating into their flesh behind the second dorsal fin and anal fin. so we did them a service and removed them all with the foreceps before returning them. not a bad trade off seeing as they gave us a bit of sport too :D

plumster wrote:Great read and result as usual men

cheers plumster. are you getting out much yourself lately? we are gonna try for the silver boys back on the beach at mornington this summer again. been trying for one there the last 3 years with no joy so far  . but we have seen them taken down there, just not by us yet  . but we'll keep at it until we come good

an Spider crab is damn tasty :-)

 cheers davy. aye, he was an odd character right enough  the level of aggression he was displaying was fearce and unwarranted. i'll have to do a bit more research regarding that beach as i was informed it was a public beach :?: but he had a herd of cattle on it, and told us it was private :| :? :? . come to think of it, it could well have been him who turned all the signposts around leading to it to keep it to himself
but seeing as we did'nt fancy taking the chance of ending up doing a reinactment of the scene from pulp fiction where the spider gets a few ball gaged flys in his basement, we decided better of it and moved on   :o :o

i did feel a bit sorry for those lice covered fish  . i've never seen anything like it. i'll have to see if there are salmon farms out that way as it's the only explanation i can think of as to why so many fish were so badly infested. we have salmon farms up in red bay just hundreds of yards off the coast and i have never seen a lice on any fish that we have taken from around there, even when we tie the boat off on the cages. so i can't see why there was such a drastic difference in those poor fish.

grady wrote:great trip there Al, seems you had realy good time, and is good to have friend like doggie3131 where you can find a shelter at the tough weather

thanks grady. doggie3131 is a trooper and has been looking after us over on the west coast for years now. in fact all the lads in the galway buccaniers sac have been more than kind to us. puting us onto good marks and looking after us. there are far too many of them to mention and they have become firm friends over the years. and for me that's what sea angling ireland is all about. anglers from all corners of ireland helping each other out. :D over the years we have met a lot of the site members and i would go so far as to say that now there is'nt a county in ireland that has a stretch of coast that we do'nt have friends in :P :P . if it was'nt for sea angling ireland, we would'nt have got a fraction of the fishing done that we have over the years

the only thing i can think is that there must be cages around there somewhere. the ones in red bay are the only ones in the uk&ireland that are placed 'offshore' in comparison to those placed in sheltered bays elsewhere - sheltered bays obviously encourage less 'flushing' and more chances of sea lice, amongst other things. i worked on them for a spell and there never saw any sea lice, not even on the salmon themselves. fair play to you de-licing the fish, i would most have certainly done the same thing.. for what it was worth

cheers charlie. the lice thing was mental. even the poor flounder were crawlling with them, allbeit smaller ones.
i remember watching a tv programme on bbc 1 with that fella darryl grimason. he had mentioned that the salmon farms in red bay kept a good head of rockcook wrasse in the pens as they were cleaner fish that ate the lice off the salmon. an amazing idea. kinda like the wrasse species you see cleaning big predator fish in warmer waters. brilliant enviromentally friendly idea that negates the use of chemicals :P :P

Well done lads that was a great expedition for you and the trout were there big time. As usual your report was excellent and well written, full of detail and the pics were stunning, the one of the spider, close up, was very good. I had a really good read and you deserve praise for compiling it so well.

I really look forward to hearing about your trip to Norway and the cod bashing that will take place for sure, but they got some very big Haddock there also and I am sure you will hit into some of them too. Thanks for this good read and good luck to you both Wez.
