the-ghost wrote:well done getting afew al but i was on the understanding that trawling in the lough was banned, that has been the case for a number of years!! would love to know when this has changed??? f@-k them trawlers.. it would maybe explain why the fishing in belfast lough is so poor. g

don't think the commercial guys pay too much attention to what's right or wrong. or whats ethical either    they've been operating inside the lough for years man. i even posted the pics of the trawler shooting his gear just off greys point a few months back. and last summer a guy and his wife were spitting bricks when one shot his nets at the mouth of larne harbour just off ferris point. they seemed to be well up on the laws as the guy took the ships reg and was straight on the phone to someone complaining that the same ship was at it again    . don't know if anything ever came of it but the guy was furious at whoever was on the other end of the phone. does anyone actually know what the laws are regarding trawling inside the lough??????

RockHunter wrote:Sounds like they wiped out the mackerel population
I have only had 12 macks so far this year - although I presume that is due to the stormy weather rather than trawlers. Even in 2007 when I first started fishing I had a lot more at this stage of the year, and last year I had a freezer full by September.

we're not too bad frank, thankfully the freezer about 80% filled already
