danger

Bunmahon in Waterford is very like this. We were there about 4 years ago and there was a rough sea with a lovely surf. Again we were above the high water mark when a big swell engulfed one of the lads. He was soaked right up to his neck

We did get a nice bass but could have been going home with a sad story to tell.

Over the years I have had 2 similar scares in the boats. Both were just south of Cahore. The wind can build up there very quickly and the waves on the banks are frightening. Just staying cool and motoring in steadily we got to shore.

The sea is treacherous and one must always be prepared for the worst.

One of my neighbours was passing the local golf course and was hit by a ball on the head. Try telling him that golf is safer!!!

got all me gear back but thats not important, as long as you all learn something from this, ie be extra safe, double check the forcasts and come home safe

Mc

Glad your ok and got home safe!! I was fishing Ramore Head last year another angler joined me swell 2 or 3ft about 10 ft below us. Fished for about an hour on a falling tide. I deep hooked a small pollock went to my box to get a disgorger a few feet away. The angler that was standing beside me shouted as I turned around he was up to his waist in water. By the time i dropped my rod the wave had recided and he was left soaked up to his chest he had to drop to his knees to hold onto the rocks. We were lucky it could have been a very different story. We packed up the gear and he headed off. I stayed for about 30mins higher up the rocks just watching and there were no more big waves but I wasnt going to rush back down and fish again thats for sure.
