Kilkee & Surrounding area, Co. Clare - 28/09/07 to 08/10

I don't often post, but after seeing this, I just have to.That folks, is the best, most comprehensive report I have ever seen, (on any site). Well done, and glad you enjoyed your stay.

Great report the detail was superb, you've just given me the inspiration to organise a trip to try a few of those marks!!

Great report just goes to show the potential of fishing in Clare and thats only that side of Clare there is much more to be explored.

You have out fished the locals and the self proclaimed pro's on this site well done.

There is great fishing off some of the beaches at the moment one beach in particular is turning up doubles of bass and flounders must be the mild weather and huge shoals of sprat thats driving the deluge of Bass in at the moment.

i suppose thats part of the holiday experience

i think the rubbish situation has been highlighted before - its countrywide at any half well known mark

and there are plenty of locals responsible for it as well as the new found "foreign nationals"

ive been killed out the last while looking for a foreign non-national

its so disgusting that some of the most dramatic rock outcrops are destroyed - as you said if only 1 official came out on a half decent saturday with a couple of gardai - the word would spread about keeping it tiday

Firstly, many thanks for all your kind comments and a special word of thanks to jd who actually posted the report for me as my PC kept timimg out when I tried and had to abandon it to fish again last weekend!

In response to some of the questions that were asked and points made, these are my answers:

Eric - Appreciate that the picture of the Gurnard is actually a Tub, but as it says, this picture was taken from my stock as I didn't take a picture of the actual fish. I only posted the picture to give people an idea of what a Gurnard looked like. Thanks for pointing it out though.

Shambobala - Castle Point is situated on the Loop Drive just to the south of Kilkee and I think the OS Maps show this as 80(metres?) above sea level. Whatever it is, it's blooming high and not for the faint hearted. I certainly wouldn't try it with any wind blowing. I managed to blow up the spool on my Penn Surfmaster last year and this, the gears on my SLOSH20 don't sound too healthy now! Maybe I should cut my feathers in half and only use 3 next time. :shock:

Marno - I too had doubts as to whther the Bream was Red or a Gilt Head, but having consulted my 'Boys Book of Fishes', I'm pretty confident it was a Red Bream.

Alannelson - The Red Mullet was only a tiddler of maybe 4oz.

Liamport - The report probably took the best part of a day to write out completely, but most enjoyable as it is fishing after all. :D

I've now uploaded as many pictures of the trip as possible to the Gallery so please take a look.
