These were all the same size, under 1lb, but I've had them up to 5 at another spot I know near there

I know here on the north east coast it was the last week in July last year before they hit - and the water temp was much higher then.

Had 11 in a couple of hours on a boat just off Dun Laoghaire harbour. Fine size on a couple of them.

There are plenty of sprat, sandeel and launce around Greystones but no Mackerel at the moment, strange, much slower than last year too.

This year is worryingly late.Last year mackerel were in in Cork second week in July.Water temps are higher now than at that point last year and still no sign. I think we are starting to feel the effects of what's happening out in the atlantic, either over fishing or northward migration

its terrible how late it has become, big commercials are ruining the season

I'm not so sure. I haven't seen much sandeel close in this year. I know this time last year, the water was full of them.

No large shoals of Spratt showing either, i haven't seen a decent break on the surface yet or gulls diving in large numbers just the odd one here and there

Yea same here, wev been watching the gulls and havent seen any diving yet..

In Balscadden today for 4hrs, not a tap not even a Seal around

. 6 other lads fishing further up the rocks all blanked and headed off after a couple of hrs. I have never seen so many people blanking here as much as this for this time of year. The fact that there was nobody else on the rocks fishing must be a first for me the place is always packed, I should have known better.

Very few sandeel or sprats around in comparison with last year in cork. May be a factor

Out in howth tonight from 1 hour before high tide to 3 hours after and not a single fish between about 8 anglers. The young fella had a small pollock as it got dark and was the only fish caught since we were there. Very bad this year so far for the macks

I have shore-fished the south shore of Donegal bay for the last five years or so and have been pleased to catch mack regularly. Over the past month I have got only two small ones

. Given the proven overfishing, Mack is now off my food menu.

What I thought were ideal conditions, hour before and hour after high tide, porpoises to be seen, good few birds around, cloudy day with light rain, fourth cast 4 macks on four feathers, small but ok, changed to 8 feathers (to make the best of the shoal) nothing doing changed back to four (able to get a bit further out with four) bugger all. Talked to a guy who was fishing this area for last 12 years, first time ever he was not guaranteed to catch his dinner.
Talked to boatman where they were used to getting three four boxes now getting half a box. Looks as if the macks are going to be scarce this year
