Plenty to be had just outside the Sovereigns again at the weekend off the boat with a load of herring knocking about too. No sign of them moving in closer yet, I tried a couple of drifts close to shore, no joy apart from micro pollack and grey gurnards.

This evening stopped on my way home in Youghal to try, told by a local (and I believed him) that they were not to be got by boat out far so don't even bother trying...
Moved on to Ballycotton, about 10 rods trying, about 0 macks, not so plentiful along the south shoreline yet??

Loads of macks near Doonbeg (close to the Blue Pool) last Saturday (31st of May). Great sport on light spinning gear. Just took 6 home for the BBQ. Very tasty. Thanks to Bill Ryan for showing me a few marks away from the bashers. It scares me to think how many fish are being slaughtered at these marks.

exactly i dont know why some ppl dont shake the macks off the hook and put them back, if your not going to eat/use them then whats the point!!!

Tramore Co Waterford

Thu Jun 05, 2008 7:36 pm

Heard a report on the radio yesterday that macks were in Tramore. Heard today in Dungarvan that none were about here yesterday evening. Will just have to make the sacrifice and get up early to check it out for myself. Let you know the result. Anyone from Waterford around with news of macks? ps agree with other poster re: shake what you don't need or just stop when you have enough for dinner. I'm no year round fisherman but even I get mad at some of the insane catches I see by 'bashers'. No way are they going to eat them all. Waste of a fine resource :(

Saw a guy nearly washed from the rocks at Annagh Head in belmullet. His clothes were torn by the rocks and had a big cut on his leg. He was very lucky. Lots of mackerel about though.

Is that Dogs Bay near Roundstone ? Spent 4 weeks in the summer of '86 as a teenager on a place that I think was called Gurteen Bay...super fishing...ray near the beach and wrasse/pollack/mackeral from some rock marks which were a long walk out on a peninsula. Haven't been back there since. I think there was a beach nearby called Dogs Bay.

The very same. It was lovely down there at the week-end, I was out around for a drive and decided to wet my line. It is listed as one of the top 50 beaches in the world....on a sunny warm day !

Venue: Dursey area, Co. Cork
Date: 15th June
Time: up to midday
Tide: flowing tide
Weather: fine, gentle swell
Rig: luminous krill imitation rig
Results: no return :(

Where I was watching a carpet of macks 3 weeks ago there was nada today. Also spoke to some visiting anglers, one of whom was up pollack hunting from 5AM, total take of macks..... 1

There were plenty of positive reports a few weeks ago, it looks like the macks are the macks playing hard to get at the moment???

No Macks at Kilmore

Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:36 pm

Was out in the yak off Kilmore Quay (drifts starting about a mile from the Little Saltee) on Sunday (June 15th). Grey weather, but calm. Fished for about two hours, baited and unbaited Sabbikis, not a single mack to be had. Similar story in great weather off Cahore point the previous Sunday. That time i managed the sum total of 1.
