Report: headed to youghal for a codling session first mark we were into fish straight away bringing them in 2 at a time, we were kept very busy and had to cut back down to 1 rod as the tide started to turn the weed came on so we headed to youghal beach to try for a ray but this was unfishable with the weed and wind in our face

plan b we hit up another mark for the codling this time up the river,again we were getting good bites most casts and were getting some nice plump codling from 1.5lb upto just under the 4lb mark a few keepers for the pan as some were really deeply hooked they were swallowing the baits the disgorger was getting its full use today with only a few lip hooked fish and everything else returned we must of had 50+ fish between us was a great session and the cod season is looking good

was the tide strong ? whats the minimum size grip lead you would get away with ?

fished claycastle and ferry point tonight had 2 cod 1 just a little over 3.5lb the other 1.3lb and a 3.75lb bass all on squid and razor ,the weed was heavy close to high water impossible would be a better way of putting it, carpets was closed and will be tomorrow also, i spent most of the night picking weed off the line.

7oz grip weights were struggling 2-3 hours before high water 6oz grip weights were like rolling 4oz bombs at this time, i went down to a single rod to avoid crossing my own lines

with the current so strong coming up to and above high tide at youghal, and it being virtually impossible to hold the bottom even with 7oz grippers would not be better to fish a few hours either side of low tide when the current is not as strong however i guess you run the risk of less fish about at this tide times.

at the moment low water is about 1 metre so that makes sense .
the weed being kicked up is a direct result of the storm we had along with onshore winds .
the 6oz would normally be enough in claycastle but ferry point on a normal night even 8oz would be no good .
