I am thinking bull huss as well,I was fishing with a fellow one night and his rod was pulled off the stand and down the beach,he landed a huss about 4 or 5 lbs,the huss took the lug worm he had out

Never heard of huss on that beach before, did hear of a (6 inch!) tope alright, but never any big ones.
Seal maybe? What bait were you fishing, and what breaking strain snoods?

Sounds like a big bass,I had d same story last year down south, never saw it,fought for a good 20 mins, maybe more, thought it was tiring until it took off like a steam train and didn't stop

Be the hookie, that's a quare one alright.
I'd say it was probably a Bull Huss alright, by the sounds of things.
Hard luck anyway.
It's one of tjose stories you can retell to your grandchildren, I suppose.
About the one that got away.
