Report:
went down to a local spot to try for a conger today,,,set up two rods,an uptider loaded with 40 lbs main line 60 lbs shock leader, the other was a beachcaster 15lbs mainline 50lbs shockleader,,got the conger rod out with half a makeral on droped it below the cliff,,put a 2 hook flapper on the beachcaster with black lug and mack, and wacked it out deep,,the rain was hammering down at this stage, waited awile then seen the beachcaster twitching thought it mite be wrasse, gave it a strike and felt a good waight,,got the fish to the surface and seen it was a conger,,,thought how am i going to get this up a 40 foot cliff on 15 pound line on a size 4 hook,,,bit by bit i kept winding thought he,d snap of at anytime, eventually i got him up the rod bent over my arms killing me,,,dont no how he stayed on the small hook!!!! he was a meter long,,happy days,,,,not even a stir of the other rod entened for a conger with a 535 reel,,winched the conger up on a 525 a struggle but a happy man,,,i,ll put a few pics up

cheers for the reply,s lads,,,, the hooks i was useing wher size 4 stainless steel from sheakspear off set hook,, i usually use them in rough ground because if ya get snagged the hook will nearly straightin itself out,and save the rig,,,,never classed them as a good hook because they are soft,,,,but i was amazed it held out to get the conger up,,,,,not even the hook but the 15lbs mainline,,,,,was clad when i seen shockleader going in on the reel,,happy man !! cheers again
