People; myself
Duration; 15.00pm-19.00pm
Tide; just started to fill when i got there
Weather; to good for to be in the pub.absolute smashing day
Bait; macks, lugs, sandeels, squid, whitebait all used.had mussel but didnt use
Rigs; 3 hook highlights
Results; plenty of flounders(biggest 36cm).small turbots and small coalies.
Report; with all the bad weather over the xmas and into the new year i realistically hadnt had a cast since december the 11th.so i was dying to get my first session of 2011 in.last monday i allocated this sunday to be the day i break in 2011.this has being the longest week ever as i was so lookin foward to fishing.i woke up this morning so excited and i cud see the good that that awaited through the curtains.i got the brekkie in and made a text to me mate that was due to come with me.but after gettin no reply after an hour i knew that he had a hard nite the nite before.but it wasnt gonna stop me.was planning to be there at 2 but when i checked my camera i had realised that me batteries were dead so i waited til 3 to give time for my batteries to charge.got to the mark around 14.45pm and was a wee bit dissapointed there wasnt a better surf but didnt let it bother me.i baited up the 2 rods and banged them out.1 out deep past the small surf and 1 in tight in the surf.the tide had just turned so i was feeling confident.the first hour was very quiet with not even a nibble but the scenery was breathtaking so taking that all in kept me occupied.i could even hear the engines of the aeroplanes that flew over head and there was a great deal of bird activity in the far distance.at about 16.40pm i got me first knock on the rod.waited for a better indication then struck slowly.knew i had something and reeled in a flounder of 36cm.next knock was on the other rod and reeled in a double shot of a flounder and turbo.this continued up til dusk.when the dark came fishing quietened to which i was surprised.the fish got smaller when the dark came.picked up some really small flats along with tiny coalies.i was probably jumping the gun with my hopes of a bass or seatrout but theres always another time.

.i was happy with my first session of the new year and i was great to be out.packed up and headed home with a happy face.have to say that the whitebait really did fish well today.some of the fish took 2 hooks they were that hungry
cheers brian

Nice start to the year. Fair play to you for waiting for the camera to charge, you must have been expecting a result. Lovely turbos by the way, still waiting on the first one.

whitebait is a small herring/sprat.u get them around autumn time.aug/sept/oct they come closer to the shore.mainly got on west coast.very very oily bait.i know lads that have got all flats on them.seatrout, bass, pollock etc.if u net a few for bait like sandeels u can get ur self thousands lol.i was walking my local beach ere on evening and i came across kama kazi whitebait

there was thousands of them on the beach.i think the mackerel drove them up on it.

u get turbos anywhere but infortunately some areas dont have the population like others due to out fished.galway, mayo, sligo and donegal still tend to have a turbot population
