Report: well with the recession kicking in hard and pennies a bit on the slim side jordan dan and i went out to a new digging spot on thursday for a bit of a bait collecting. it was really productive with 2 hours of digging getting us almost 3lb of king rag and some lug, mussels, pissers, white rag, and golf ball sized cockles

. we also hit into some tube worms which i've always wondered about as using for bait. anyone who digs lug will have came across them in the past. they look like big pink coloured lug that ooze loads of pink goo. i've often wondered what sort of scent this goo would put out so i kept a nice 8 inch one to try out
so it was the weekend and we decided to head up the antrim coast for a flattie bashing session as we have'nt had a go at them in ages. high tide was'nt going to arrive until around 1am so we did'nt bother leaving belfast until 7pm. liam arrived at the mark before us and had already caught 3 fish before we arrived so things were looking up for the evening. the tide was still a good way out when we arrived and we all got set up in quick time. dan and jordan were both into fish on the first cast, but as usual i was running about sorting out base camp. but when i returned to my rod it was nodding away furiously with a full house of flounder, dab and codling

well i say codling it was more like a codlet

but still a fish

. the flounder was decent for the venue at 28cm and added to that it was a lefty which was nice to see

. the next 2 hours were non stop with everyone getting doubles and trebles of a variety of species. nothing of any great size but plenty all the same

. around 11pm jordan was complaining his wee hands were numb so i went up to the car and lifted a bag of off cuts from a decking job a while back and we got a wee camp fire going. then the chicken and leek soups came out and we took a break for 10mins from the fishing to warm up. all we were missing was a sing song

. so back to the fishing and a steady stream of fish was being had by everyone right up until liam packed up and headed for home around midnight. after he left things slowed down and it was back to single fish coming in. i thought i was on for finishing with the biggest fish with my 28cm flounder until dan (jammy trunks) landed a nice flounder on his last cast measuring 32cm

. the spawny git did the same a thing few weeks ago beating my biggest fish by 1cm and 1 ounce

. but jordan was just made up to get the biggest 5 beardy of the session as he and dan were taunting each otheh all evening about who was gonna get the biggest

. by 2am we decided to wrap up as the fishing had died and we still had a 2 hour journey home at a snails pace through the fog and ice.
all in all a good nights fishing was had by everyone. plenty to keep us all busy even if there was nothing big to talk of this trip. but sure with a pound and a half of rag left over i'm sure it wo'nt be long until we're back out annoying the fish again
so after all was said and done the scores on the doors were:
DAN - 15 coalies, 12 flounder, 1 plaice, 1 whiting and a 5 bearded rockling
ME - 5 coalies, 10 flounder, 2 dab and 2 codling
LIAM - 10 coalies, 4 flounder, 3 whiting and a 5 bearded rockling
JORDAN - 8 flounder, 2 coalfish and 4 five beardys
