Report:Hadnt been out since New Years Eve so I was looking forward to my first fishing trip of 2011 , and i wasnt disappointed. We had intended to fish Saturday night ,but decided to leave it till Sunday to see if any codling came in after the blow(also because we wouldnt be out in the pi**ing rain

). Neil was already set up when I arrived and the others arrived just as i set off down to the beach. As usual , Neil had a new rod to start off the year and was soon advising me to get one, a nice Ian Golds super match extra. Unfortunately my shares arent doing too well at the minute , and as I also have to eat and live somewhere, i'll be sticking to my Triplex for the moment. But its a lovely rod, light too, and i need a second long rod, so who knows

.

The sea was fairly churning up , with big waves crashing in so hopes were high , and I was delighted to get a decent little codling , about 30cms, early on.

Pressure off and it was still bright:wink: . Neil was getting flounder and the others were landing some decent flatties. Once darkness fell , i was watching the rod tip, but my tip was dancing in tune to the waves so it was hard to see bites. I noticed it had gone slack and reeled it, ,,,something decent here says I to myself, and as usual I went quiet as I walked down the beach, keeping in contact with the fish and taking in line with the waves until I beached him. A nice fat codling , approx 40cms and a personal best codling for me, and on my first trip of 2011.

A few photos and he was soon released and swimming away,,,,,,,well not really

, but I'll spare the sensitive souls out there, suffice to say I rarely keep fish, and as I said earlier, i have to eat

.Ringo, on the other end , had landed another decent codling, even larger, at the same time, so we must have hit a school passing through.

Fishface was disgusted that he didnt get one but he was targeting flounder, so he told me

,,,,,but then I had to grab the camera again as he pulled in an early bass

I had another codling but a small one approx 25cms, as did Neil. Mainly flounder after that till it died off a bit and we all headed to the kelly kettle and fresh coffee and biscuits. We had to watch the water as the waves were coming right in , even though the tide was dropping, as Neil found out as his box was turned over and the contents scattered

On a happier note, he had another bass just as it went quiet for us.

Mitch, Ringo and Neil headed off at 9-30pm and myself and Billy stayed another hour or so. I had another flounder and a shore rockling, with Billy bringing in doubles of codling and flounder each time I went over to him. Pretty good session for us all and a great way to start off 2011
