good going nick, im not so sure about specimen rays up in the swilly, the specimen weight is 20lb i think.

well done to both of you ,charlotte will be a very good angler some day.not many ladies like to bait up themselves or handle the catch, but it was no problem to her even the gurnard with its spikes was no problem at all.she has no confidence in her casting at the minute but i think this is down to the rod being to long for her to manage at the minute, that is why i said a rod of around 11/12 ft would suit her better to get that confidence.really enjoyed my time with both of you.john

sounds about right to me for this neck of the woods for the sea angler specimen award badge, but the ifsa award is something like 20lb for a specimen thornback but who is to say there arenot fish of that size in the swilly its finding the right mark.
Sun Jul 04, 2010 4:29 pm
yes it is 20lb just checked and 8lb for sea angler. think we need to get onto isfa as 20lb is a joke
Sun Jul 04, 2010 4:47 pm
yes its a bit much for up here 20lb half of that would be more like it for a specimen ray.haveing said that i once seen a trawler leve rathmullan pier and when it came back in, it had three boxes of thornback rays on it and the biggest looked over 20lb easily.it was fishing where i showed you yesterday nick so you never know.

we need to have a go, or that rock mark where the birds were diving
Sun Jul 04, 2010 5:28 pm
yes i think that would be a very good mark alright if we find out how to get to it,would charlotte be ok on the rocks??maybe give it a go after your hols mate.
Sun Jul 04, 2010 5:36 pm
oh yes charlotte is great on the rocks. we fish dunseveric all the time and thats where she started her fishing so she knows the risks of the rocks and freak waves so she will be fine
