Frustrating does not cover it! I fished for them a few times last summer without success. I will be spending some hours this year trying though. Big well done and hope many more hours of frustration and success to follow. 8)

Lets hope so. The most frustrating thing is when you strike and all that you reel in is a scale :). But when you have one hooked they are a good fight especially on very light gear.

That's a very nice mullet indeed, well done. As you said, a fantastic fish but an extremely frustrating one to catch at the same time. You need to have very good patients.
On light gear, they give you one hell of a scrap don't they? How long did it take you to get it in?

Thanks Kerry1. It took me only 3-4 minutes to land. It gave a few runs alright but it didnt want to play him too much in case he broke off with the light gear. Never knew they could jump out of the water like a trout or salmon :). I was using my Shaksphere Ugly Stick lite with a small penn reel with 8ibs line. I think the most frustrating thing is when a pack of them swim right in front of your line and ignore your bait.

Hi gazaaa, I know what you mean when you say you didn't want to play the fish for too long but because of the light gear you can't go too quick or hard at it either. Both ways may result in the fish getting off. That's what makes mullet fishing so exciting and such a challenge I think.
Pound for pound it is my opinion that a mullet fights harder than a seatrout or bass. Would you agree?

Can't really comment on a seatrout or bass as I never caught any of them :(. will let you know as both are on my list this year. It's certinaly better than a codling or a doggie :). I believe if you caught a bass on the same light gear it would also put up a he'll of a scrap.

My next aim: Mullet on the fly! Now that would be awesome 8)
Good luck on the bass & seatrout , hope you catch them this year at some stage.

had one opn the fly last year k1, was only about 12 ounces to a pound though, but best fight i've ever had on a fly rod. got it whilst pollack fishing i noticed them moving about around half way into the session, switched to a bread fly and first go bang, but fished for them for about 30 mins after and they just drove me potty! lol.

Nice Mullet there mate, good to see they are finally back again! :D :D

Nice mullet! Last weekend I have been chasing mullet down here in Holland. They turned up with hundreds  of fish but I couldn't get a single one to bite. I have tried with bread, herring waste (awful smell), ragworm and even with a fly on a buldo.

The dutch word for "mullet" is: "harder", which is quite an appropriate name. :D

In recent years, I did manage to land a fish or two.

Gaza man well done on your specimen mullet, 8)

I can only imagine what a fish 6.5lb would be like on the fly rod, it took me for ever to land a 5.25 mullet on the fly using a 4lb leader,

I been making up a couple of rabbit fur flys in readiness for when they come in around my mark,

Well done again on that fat looking fish dude… but do try them on the fly and I bet you wont go after them using any other method once you feel the real power they can have on light gear,
