culdaff 14-3-10

People:Myself

Duration:0300hr to 0600hr

Tide:0600hr

Weather:mild

Bait:Mackeral , sprat .

Rigs:3+2 hook flappers

Results:1 salmon , 3 flounder




Report:Its being a while now since i got to culdaff due to the weather. got set up aroud three o clock and i was just sitting down and the rod went mad , hopped up and after a short spell i had my first salmon from the sea , it weighed just over 6lb , it went back to sea again the flounder were`nt so lucky . got plenty of big knocks on the rod hooked up once more but lost the fish on the last wave in . all in all it was a great wee sess . for future reference do i need a liecence for salmon also or is it just sea trout that liecence is needed for ?

well done! nice salmol by the sounds of it! as far as you know you do indeed need a salmon licence!

THANKS LAD CRACKER FISH , I WAS THINKING THAT ABOUT LICENCE , THATS THE ONLY REASON THE FEC`R WENT BACK IN THE TIDE .

haha ya and the only time we ever get a salmon or sea trout is when its by accident and we dont have a licence! typical!

I bet the salmon was put back after you had the inevitable thought of ''what should i do here, is anyone looking''.... :P :P . Sounds like a rite good session and you got to take home some supper..

Thats some going catching a Salmon in the sea mate. You definately need a game license to keep a Salmon, wouldn't imagine it will be a common occurance though.

first i ever seen caught on beach , pure luck . but i suppose if your not in ya can`t win .

All you need for salmon and sea trout at Culdaff is a Lough's Agency licence, £16 for the year, hard to beat. That allows you to fish the Culdaff River too as far as I know.

without belittling your catch are you sure it was a salmon and not a good seatrout culdaff gets some fine seatrout even the odd bass r 10 but ive never heard of a salmon getting caught in the sea not on rod and line i say this with the greatest respect as an angler

I have caught a Salmon from the Swilly before..Think I got it on Rag if I remember, Have heard of the odd Salmon being pulled out of the sea a few times..

are they wild fish or escaped fish farm salmon ,heard of fish farm escapes being caught never wild fish in the sea

hello fishquinn , i know that i got proven wrong on plaice/flounder , but i`ve being fishing for trout since i was a nipper , i know the difference on this particular subject . thanks for asking though cause it could be easy to mix them up .

If you're sure it was a salmon, stick to your guns. Stranger things have happened- I caught a 4 lb seatrout off the beach on a bluey head pennel rigged with hooks that would fear you(last cast with the very last of bait- boy did that pay off).
