Report
after a disaster of a session on sunday with me, jordan and dawsey fishing 9 rods over 12 hours without a single bite hopes were low for seeing a fish at waterfoot

. but there was a mountain of bait left over and dan was up for a session and i fancied a bit of flattie bashing on the beach. we arrived just before high tide to see the beach 2 foot deep with kelp just below the high tide line

. a re-think was in order as i did'nt want to spend the whole session pulling clumps of weed outta our rigs, and besides it was forecast to drop to 3 below freezing as we lost the sun

and frostbite to the fingers would have been the only thing we would have been catching

.
thankfully the harbour was deserted, which to be honest surprised the heck outta us as it had been a great sunny day with a good fishing forecast for the evening. so we high tailed it over in quick time to steak a claim to our usual spot

. within the first 5 mins dan had caught 2 coalies and the coalie onslaught began in ernest

. nothing of any great size but there was a whole shoal of them hanging just off the end of the harbour hammering any bait put in front of them

. what a difference a day makes

. i would have broke someone's arm for just one of those wee guys yesterday

. after my first cast resulted in a crack off, i quickly changed spools over and went back to my trusty braid and was out fishing. dan was already into double figures of coalies before i had my second rod into the water

. but i was'nt too long in catching up. amongst the coalies dan was getting a few 5 beardy's and codling and a few pollack turned up to join in on the, all you can eat bait buffet we were chucking out to them

. dan decided to change rigs over to have a crack at the flatties as we had a mountain of worms to use up and quickly landed a wee plaice and a dab. this was brilliant. like i said nothing of any great size but the rod tips were bouncing away the whole session. dan even managed to get 5 coalies on the same worm before the last coalie snaffled him off the hook

. the mountain of bait was getting munched by the coalies at a fairly rapid rate and i got a bite and reeled in what we thought at first glance was a wee joey mack, as it was having seizures and flipping and flapping about like a 1980's breakdancer having a fit. but when we got it up we saw it was a herring

and a big one at that

. i was chuffed to bits as i've never caught one before and i could add him to my ever growing 2010 species list

. it's always great to get a new species as it's always gonna be a PB too

. a great way to round off a great session and put yesterdays blank behind me
if i've left anything out i'm sure dan will add it to the report
