Report: after my good session at portrush during the week jordan naturally wanted in on the action. so we arrived at the harbour around 3pm to get a bit of fishing done before we were due to go out on the boat at 6pm

. it was a fish a cast and by 5.30 pm jordan had landed 8 dab and a corkwing wrasse. i was lagging behind with only 4 dab (as usual

). the baits had only touched the bottom and the fish were stripping the rag off the hooks quicker than we could re-bait them

we got loads of bites but just could'nt hook them up. the time flew by and we got set for our boat trip. sadly the fishing on the boat was pretty poor. about 10 anglers on the boat and about 10 mack taken on the whole trip

we even resorted to baiting the feathers up with rag and that only got jordan 1 poor cod and me 3 small whiting and 4 average poor cod

. it also put the kibosh on our intended evening session at lenan or fahan for a go at the thornies. with only 2 frozen mack we had brought with us, it was hardly worth the time heading up seeing as the harbour was fishing so well. so we decided to stay and fish the harbour until dawn.

probably the best decision of the weekend too

. we had the place to ourselves and jordan was quickly back into the fish. it was a case of fishing one rod each and holding it in your hand at all times as the bites were almost instant. a lot of small fish were robbing the rag but we held out with the 1/0 hooks in the hope of something bigger coming along. it did'nt take long before some bigger fish came on the feed and we got some nice coalies and pollack. jordan beat his P.B. pouting and i beat my P.B. poor cod

. jordan hooked into a nice dog near the end that looked like it might be a specimen. but my digital scales only put it at 1lb 10ozs

which seemed really off. i think i need new ones

we left around 5am absolutely shatterd but really happy with how well we had done. jordan ended up with 10 dab, 8 poor cod, 3 codling, 4 pouting, 5 coalies and his doggie. i got 8 dab, 3 poor cod, 1 coalie, 2 pouting, 1 whiting and a pollack. not bad for our second session in the harbour

we made it home for around 6am and were straight to bed as we wanted to get a wee afternoon session in at donaghadee.
so with a few hours sleep we got up and sorted and headed to donaghadee to use up the last of the rag and squid. we were set up and fishing for 1pm ready to fish the incomming tide. it was unusually quiet with jordan blanking and me only getting a goldsinny wrasse, 2 micro pollack and 2 equally small codling

drew and the missus came for a walk round the lighthouse and we had a yarn for a bit, which was good as i have'nt seen him about for a bit

. he was telling me that rab was down and had a good session the other day which was odd as the fishing was really poor when we were there

seems to be a feast or a famine there at the moment

. by 5pm we were both exhausted and headed for home. but we can't complain as we did really well at portrush
