Hi Guys
As if my addiction to fishing was not bad enough after last weekends outings I fear for my relationship with girlfriend, family, friends and work.
My story begins several weeks ago upon the purchase of a new light spinning outfit as a change to the normal bait fishing (lug rag and crab). Since purchasing it I have been out religiously fishing familiar and unfamiliar marks attacking each with the assortment of lures in my bag but to little or no avail. I have been catching pollock but I was actually dreaming(in truth!!

) of the day when I would hook a bass and on such a light rod. My dream finally came true last Friday night...
After leaving work and collecting the molly(who was an hour late

) I raced off for Wexford racing the incoming tide. I had figured that Id get 3 hours of rising tide and an hour after- but quickly found myself amidst the Electric Picnic traffic which, incidently, I would have missed had herself not been late-but noone was bitter or pointed this out

After several detours and a "Wexford is in this general direction" sort of driving I arrived on the beach at about 6ish (HW was just after 7) quickly changed and set up and headed for the rocks.
An hour and a half later and the light was fading. The tally was 1 pollock...a nice size and good little fight....but unfortunately no bass. At just after 7-45 ( Iknow this as I rang to check in before the cast).....I was retrieving my silver and blue Chug Bug watching it all the way when wallop out of nowhere I see the water boil and the back of a fish roll over beside my lure. I honestly nearly exploded with the excitement but I remembered something that the ever helpful Jim H had said to pause and count to 10 and then tweak the lure again...This I did and then BANG I had fish on!!! I nearly pi*sed myself with the excitement. I had a great time playing the fish (no idea how long I was doing it for) and finally got it to rest by the water at my feet. Judging from previous bass Ive had Im guessing it was around 3lbs of sleak silver muscle. In the excitement of trying to get a pic owith my phone I dropped the f**ker into the water and needless to say it was no longer working when I got it. I unhooked the fish and held him until he was strong enough to swim away. I actually sat on a rock afterwards with a huge smile and had a long smoke and relived the action in my head. My first lure caughtbass and it was better than the one in my dreams!!!
After a very pleasant sleep with that huge smile I awoke with the alarm at 5-30am on Saturday morning and headed for the beach and fixed the trusty Chug Bug on again. On my 4th cast I was into another bass but lost him in the "battle" that ensued. I managed about 3 maybe 4 hook ups but failed to land any. But I didnt care really as at least I was attracting their attention and enticing them to a take which I had failed to do before and thought that I was doing something wrong with and was giving up hope. I didnt manage to land any bass that morning but I still left the beach with a spring in my step. I returned to the same spot that evening (armed with chug bug again!!) but didnt manage a take. After an hour I I switched to a greeny black Mag Popper. I hooked up with a few pollock and just as the light was going a Bass struck. Fish on and heading out to sea!! To hook such a fish on such a light outfit is so fascinatingly exciting it is difficult to put into words. I landed the fish by my feet and he was about the same as previous days fish. I was very very pleased to say the least. Alas no pic as phone has died and no camera. No more fish after another hour so packed up and left. I can safely sat that the conversation or indeed the meal we had on Saturday is a blur in comparisson to the fishing!!!
I know this report is getting long but we are on the last day now!!!!
Again I rose with the alarm (6am) and headed down to my mark. I spent almost 5 hours down there and I can am proud to say that I managed to catch and land 5 fish!!! All with the greeny black Mag Popper . I had to pinch myself to see if I wasnt dreaming...happily I wasnt. 5 fish and several takes made this session an absolute corker and one that I will never ever forget.
The excitement of this form of fishing has made me wonder how and why I bait fished solely for so long without ever contemplating a lure. Even as I have relived my experience with you lot I can still feel the rush and excitement of those surface takes.
I know that I have gone on for quite a bit but I just wanted to share with all whom care to read as it was from this site and many many helpful and informative posts supplied by members that I can have such a session under my belt. So a HUGE THANK YOU to all those who supplied info here.
Thanks for reading Guys.
Incidently if anyone knows how to fix a Nokia N95 after it has fallen into the sea please share with me!!!
I can still remember the words of the salesman...."would you like to take out insurance on this phone?"
and my reply..."Insurance??-No thanks I'll be good, I wont need that"
All bass bar 1 were returned safe and well. I had promised 1 to mammy!!!
