Co. Antrim beach friday 20th feb 09

Sat Feb 21, 2009 1:29 pm

People: me, jordan and dawsey

Duration: 5pm - 10pm

Tide: low to high

Weather: calm, mild and dry until 10pm when the wind picked up

Bait: rag, lug, mack and prawn

Rigs: flappers

Results: ME: 13 flounder, 8 coalies, 1 codling and 1, 5 bearded rockling. JORDAN: 10 flounder and 4 whiting. DAWSEY: 11 flounder, 3 coalies, 1 codling, 1 whiting and 1 sea trout.

Report: after weeks and weeks of persuasion dawsey finally got a run up the antrim coast with us to our beach that never fails to suprise    . we got there a bit later than expected after 3 return trips to home. we were just leaving belfast when i noticed the oil light come on in the car as i forgot to top up the oil    so it was back to the house for a splash and dash and back on the road again. we were half way out of belfast (again) and it dawned on me that the bait was still in the fridge at home, so back to the house again       finally we got to the mark and set up as the tide was flooding back in. jordan was 20 yards to my right and dawsey 20 yards to my left. as it was dawseys first time here i put him in the hot spot, fishing a wee lagoon that never fails as the tide floods    odd thing was, i was pulling in fish after fish with jordan and dawsey only getting the occasional knock for the first hour :| :| :| :| i got my first doubles of flounder and coalies before they landed a fish :? :? :? :? but by 6.30pm all the rods were bouncing away :D :D :D :D jordan and dawsey both opted to put bells on their rods, and at one stage it sounded like the ghost of christmas past was breakdancing on both sides of me( chains and all)    bites and fish were coming fast and furious for us all, with us all getting flounder and coalies. me and dawsey even managed a wee codling each and jordan and dawsey got into the whiting. i knew from the weather reports it was going to be calm, so for added sport i advised dawsey to leave the bach rods at home and only bring light spinning gear with 40gram cast weight max to get the maximum sport from the session    the doubles we were all getting into put a brave bend in the rods and was great sport. we were on our own until a bunch of drinkers set up camp behind us and started partying and lighting fires. there was no harm in them, but they were a bit annoying breaking out into song every now and again. but trust me,........ i think it's safe to say westlife can sleep easy in their beds tonight as these guys did'nt have the X-FACTOR. more like the becks factor       by now it was nearly 10pm and the tide was on the way back out and it was last cast saloon. dawsey reeled in what i thought from a distance was a joey mackerel    but was even more suprised to hear him yelp with joy that it was a sea trout :D :D . he had taken a strip of mack and was perfectly lip hooked. dawsey was made up as he had always wanted to get one, but thought he would have to wait until spring to even have a sniff at one. RESULT!!!   . i was made up as well as my last fish was a 5 bearded rockling. only my 3rd of the year, but 2 more than i had in 2008 already :D :D :D :D :D . jordan did'nt fair so well, only getting into flounder and whiting all night. but he reckons he's saving himself for greystones next week        another super session that was fairly short by our usual standards, but this wee beach never fails

well done lads, your being well rewarded for the time and effort that you put in.
think you'll have to get your own report section soon, as you spend more time by
the water than a seagull (not that i'm jealous or anything), dont think i'll be out till
next week (man flu again  ) so it's good to see the rest of you's out and catching
in good numbers.....

lol!! just shows what you can encounter when you get outta the rut of fishing the same mark all the time :P :P . you're more than welcome to join us when jordan's off school. we arrive at a mark on the friday, and camp and fish it out to the sunday night. even when we're getting a nap the rods are still left out with the bells attached for fear of missing a fish

well done, a couple of set backs but with a night like that its worth it.

A couple more flounder after you left al, nothing of any real size. don't be telling jordan that there was a dab and a plaice caught.

cheers lads, roundourway, for gods sake don't be telling jordan about that or he'll have me camped out at that beach until he gets one        was it deffo a plaice? we've had some very spotty flounder there but they lacked the lumps around the eyes that tells them apart from a plaice :| :|
