Report:

After fishing this beach for the first time a couple of months ago (catching just 2 good-sized flounder), I fancied taking it on again, hoping for an improvement in results.

Didnt see a soul last time I was here, so was pleasantly suprised to find another angler unloading his gear as I parked up. He was a local, fished the beach very regularly, and had caught a bass the evening before......expectations were raised :)

There was blankets of weed at the top of the beach and this should have set the alarm bells ringing, but I seem to be a slow learner where some things are concerned.

I was set up before him, left my gear at the high water mark, and trundled off in the direction of the (small) surf with rod and tripod in hand.

1st cast, nothing, stripped the rig of all the weed then moved back to allow for the incoming tide.

2nd cast, nothing, stripped the rig of all the weed then moved back with the oncoming tide.

3rd cast, nothing, stripped the rig of all the weed then moved back to allow for the tide.

Bait was untouched on each cast....the signs were not good

As I moved back for the 4th time 2 other anglers arrived, this gave me a bit of optimism....surely the locals wouldnt be here just for the fresh air :!:

As I was now fishing from the HW mark I put the 2nd rod out, whilst it's a shallow enough beach, there is a distinct channel/gulley (which I paced out before the tide came full in) at around 75 yards which should give a depth of around 6-8 ft, perfect for holding the fish I thought. I put both rods (now a 3 hook & 2 hook flapper to increase my chances) into this channel.

Nothing......, not a bite, baits were coming back untouched.

My thoughs now had turned to how I could make my shore report interesting......the best I could come up with was....

Best 2 things about the session were:

1) No crabs stripping the bait :D
2) It hadnt rained :D

It was right at this moment that it started to rain for the first time :(

Nothing more to report really, the other anglers gradually left, I suppose I should have done the same, but I'm a stubborn so and so at times and didnt want to be beaten by the beach.

At least with the long weekend, I'll have the chance to put the blank behind me......(fingers crossed) I hope

well mark

unlucky on the blank - but its part and parcel of this game - its good to know when/where blanks are happening too

they dont get reported much - some people dont want to admit it - but it could save you time if you were wondering how a mark is fishing etc.

if you caught every time you would loose interest - we need the challenge surely

tight lines and better luck next time

bad luck on the blank mark, there are some nice spots furthur on up the coast that we fished during our louth / meath trip a few weeks back. we did'nt get any bass ourselves but talked to lots of locals who did. our posts are still on with pics and results a page or two back, see if they are any help to you. but stick with it, perserverance is the name of the game :D
