Shockleader???

For about my last 30 or so trips i have been using just normal cheap 50lb line on 1 rod like a shockleader and proper 50lb shockleader on my other rod and can say that there seems to be no difference between them whatsoever. I now wonder about buying leader at all as it works out more expensive, so i will just stick with the 50lb mono instead.

What ever works for you. Some cheaper lines are a bit rigid and dont knot very well.

have u tried tapered shock leader it leaves a much smaller knot which is handy if its weedy less chance of a crack of as well ,10 times the price !!!
but sometimes worth it bless the carp boys for one invention 8)

I dont know why your thanking the Carp boys...to my knowledge the first tapered leader on the market was from Daiwa about 20 plus years ago after Paul Kerry first started as their consultant....never heard any mention of the Carp guys using it before then.

You will probably find that the 'ordinary'line will do the job as good as if not better than the purpose built shockleader! :shock:

The only difference IMO is the spool of shockleader is packaged in smaller quantities. I've just been using an ordinary 4oz spool of mono for years and never have had any trouble. IMO it is all down to being a great deal more cost effective. :wink:

I agree 100%...in fact tapered leader is worse in weed, not only because of the price but it tends to break at the knot far easier than normal shock leader lines.

I think the only real advantage in tapered leader is if your chucking lures, it helps your distance because it goes through the tip guide better without knocking and cutting your distance down.

Iv been using berkley big game in 40z spools as my shockleader, find no difference and its cheaper

have to agrre EL, i find the berkeley big game makes an excellent shockleader, and is strong as hell!

i got a roll of clear 60lb bobcat which appears thinner than the greased weasal that i generally use.have been using this for a number of months and had no problems with it. still like greased weasal more but costs a bit too much for what it is.

daiwa sensor 50 0r 60lb, over 200 meters, cheap as chips , strong as
any other top named shock-leader, probabaly more so.
