I use up to 4 inches from the shore Bob, to good effect for pollack and the like. Most of the time you can get away with no extra lead if your using the Storm weighted variety. I find green, black or clear in the, I think, 3-4 inch size work the best. I did manage to come across some very small green shads on ebay, an inch and a half long at most. These are a fantastic lure off the boat, especially when fished in a team of 3. Whilst standard gilling tactics mainly account for pollack when over shallowish reefs, I have had wrasse, tub gurnard, whiting and cod on these also.
I have a feeling they may be a great cheap alternative to plugs when bass fishing nasty ground but I havent yet put that into practise. Perhaps someone else could advise?

Had one bass on a green, small (3in??) Storm weighted shad. Haven't used them much though.
I like the look of the small, thin, blue ones but haven't had a bass on one, but haven't used them much either ...

Would it be better to use them beach fishing or from a Rock platform? Or do they work just the same? Haven't done much spinning or plugging when sea fishing! I use the Storm shads for Pike fishing and have had good results on them in various colours and sizes! Was thinking of giving them a whirl next time i get out!

I got my bass on a rocky reef (surprise, surprise!!). Doesn't mean the shads they won't work off a beach :D

Would prefer to try them from Rocks myself but in this weather it wouldn't be the best idea :? I'll try it off a beach anyways and see how i get on, but there is just so much beach where do you start  Hopefully the weather will clear for a day or two when i'm back home over Christmas and i can give it a blast of Rocks too :) How much do you Guys Pay for them by the way? Bought a 2 pack up in Balbriggan Sunday Market (in Dublin) 4'' Roach pattern i think :? for 4.50euro, Is that a good or bad price for them? I had not bought them before, I got a good few off of a friend during the summer to try while Pike fishing.4.50 Seemed a good price anyway! :)

Actually i just remebered seeing them in a tackle shop in Rooskey for 8yo yos! I think i'll be going back up to the market when i'm home! He had some good spoons and plugs too which i think were a pretty decent price! Might get a collection of different pattern and see what works best! Dont think they will go to waste anyway! Prob have to wait to summer though to try them properly though :?
Ah well...good things come to those who wait (Apparently) :)
Cheers for checking by the way teacher, was just wondering if i could get a better deal on them! :)

I usualy pay about 6 euro for a pack of storm shads, quantity dependent on size but around 8 for the 3-4 inch ones so it sounds like your paying too much mate.

How would you set up the shads in a team of three? I have some small green storm ones3-4 inches cost me around 6 euro.

I assumed you meant two packs of 5 or 6 shads, rather than 2 shads. In the cold light of day, baybe it was a pack of two, in which case veals is better value :D
