Cold fingers

Using mackeral bait I have noticed that the oiliness seems to keep water from seeping into your fingers and helps to prevent them getting achingly cold so quickly in the winter.
Does anyone "grease up" like this? Is there anything else to use as a substitute? - that is less smelly?

a good pair of neoprane gloves alan should do the trick i got a pair that u can pull back the thumb index and middle finger handy when your baiting up or the heat coming off the coleman usually does the trick. Think u can get hand warming packs too but ive never used them

vaseline? don't know what it would do to the bait though I suppose you could try cod liver oil :D or some sort of vegetable oil

Try keeping the rest of yourself warm esp the feet, neck and head I am amazed at how much cold you can live with if these are kept warm.

the usual stuff like wind proof jackets and leggings preferably with some sort of tie to stop cold air going up the sleeves. if the sleeves of your jacket does not have them use elastic bands.

a thermal base layer. long johns are great.

keep your hands out of the wind as much as possible

try to keep dry.
