I was just wondering and avin a bit of a laugh would it be possible to say fish off a bridge in an estuary where you cant cast any distance but use a float to carry your spinner a long way and then retrieve setting the distance between spinner and float at variable lenghts to fish different dephts? Do you guys recon it would work or maybe someones doing it or heard of it done?

I often use a float to "spin" a mackerel strip by retrieving slowly - catching pollock at the shore. I also seem to get bigger mackerel using this technique compared to using feathers. There also seem to be more bites when fewer fish are around. Anyone found this?

yep unless mackeral are not coming in in big shoals feathers can be useless. if they are coming in in smaller groups float fishing is the way to go. I think it has something to do with competition in a large shoal makes them jump at any thing that looks remotely fishy but if they are in a small shore they have time ti inspect bait.
also you can prompt a bite by giving a long slow pull. thats what I found.
that Idea with the spinner and the float is fairly recognised as far a I know (which isn't very far )

Thanks for your replies, hopfully the thread will grow on the subject. I'll give it a go over the next few weeks and I'll post the results.
