Drew,
I've given up using those bluddy things altogether and use Paul Kerry's method instead. To trap the swivel you will need a crimp, then a bead, followed by the snood swivel, followed by another bead. Then a powergum stop knot followed by another bead and then the final crimp.
I hope the diagram makes it a little simpler. The idea is to leave a gap about the width of the stop knot again before the last bead/crimp. The stop knot will slip on powerful casts but not enough to release the snood. Then just reset it for the next one. Takes a bit of tweaking to get it right but works an absolute treat for me.
I also never completely tighten the crimps and allow them to slide on the trace body under extreme pressure. It means that all the clipped down rigs are adjustable. If I need to replace a snood or hook I can simply reposition all the crimps, beware of damaging the trcae body however when doing this - something to watch out for.
I've heard anglers using a short 1inch length of silicone tubing instead of the srt spring also. the idea being this will compress during the cast. tried it didn't like it.
Hope some of this is of use!
Liam
