I know that dryed sea salt on your line from its last use helps the first cast when its used next, makes the line come off a bit smoother, so would a slight dusting with talc powder, it stops the nylon/polymer from sticking, but for the amount of hassle its not worth it for one or two casts.
In the US, you only need to catch 5% of the angling public with a gimmick like that and you've made some serious money, they get one a week. I seen one for Liquide Hooks....size 10/0 = $15.00 each....last a lifetime, who wants a hook that lasts that long anyways
My Vote was a "NO"

ah, but the question now is... who voted YES???

I did... and I'm sure it works.
Only for one cast mind you, then you put it on again !

i use silicone spray on my reels and line and it works a treat. so it just proves that the Americans, the country that brought us the instant fisherman  , really have not got a clue

Whilst doin a small bit over the weekend off cahore, a few canoeists came along and, well, basically got in my way! ... but it gave me an idea :!: ... made me think "here lads, do us a favour... take the end of this line & row out there about 300 yards & then drop it!!!" :) - Alas i didn't want to look like an idiot so didn't bother asking!! ... still... could have proved to be the greatest distance reached from the shore ever!!!

You could be on to something there Fintan.
There have been a couple of different 'launchers' mentioned in SAI forums for firing your bait up to 300yds out to sea from compressed gas rocket (bait) launchers.
Why not a hefty high-powered bait boat like some pike and carp fishermen use :?: :!: . I mean, if a model was designed to cope with waves it could drop your bait way beyond reasonable casting distace. Mind you, the cost of some of the fresh water bait boats is astronomical: I'd hate to see one bashed up on the rocks at St. John's Point
They use kites in Australia and USA for shore fishing...... now that's another story.

I've used my canoe to retrieve lost plugs, also off cahore, by coincidence. (BTW, that wasn't me in the canoe at the weekend :) )
Did you have any luck in Cahore. Were you at the North or South beach? I was on the South beach two weeks ago and had to give up with the unmerciful weed. (Got one smoothie for my efforts)
