Bead color?

Hi all just wondering do any of u have any prefrance on with color beads u use for different fish? For eg. Red and orange for flounders and I've heard pink for cod.

IMHO it's certainly a lot more about bait than bling, and of course skills, weather, location and luck.

The picture shows you a boat rig which I normally use over a mussel bed.

For lets say gurnards I'd prefer snoods with 1 of each bead in pink, white, blue and yellow. You can also add a small single blade for extra attraction. A few pics can be seen here: http://www.moonfleet-angling.com/moonfl ... s.html#3dg

For whiting I use a combination of red, yellow and white beads, one of each is enough. Cod and ling seem to have a preference for pink, orange and fluorescent beads and/or muppets but it's all up to what works best for you under different circumstances or conditions. Alright Paul with the exeption of floating beads for movement and occasionally lumi beads I honestly don't believe they make any difference at the end of the day fish don't eat beads.

If you watch the best Shore anglers in the country at work in Master Anglers / Big Opens etc. In most scenarios very few will use beads are used for attaction on traces.

If you are looking for distance I'd use a small sequin instead of a bead. Flatfish do love bling but to be honest my biggest shore caught plaice of 5lb 10oz was caught on a plain trace. I have caught plenty with beads of various types be it lumi, floating, coloured and the only advice I can give you is to use what you have confidance in. If you have confidance it what you are using then you have a better chance of catching fish.

depends on situation, very clear water add reflective bling sometimes helps, after all fish scales reflect light

in rougher water the extra weight keeps the bait closer to the bottom, add a small spilt shot

but it depends on the fish and what they want, sometimes plain rigs work for them sometimes they like a little incentive to spark interest

as you can guess i have done both and feel the jury is out on this one as i havent had any solid proof for either, therefore I'll keep trying both on the day to see which works then stick with that rig

Although you do make a very good point about adding extra weight to keep baits on teh bottom..

I think the only proof would be to fish the same venue 10 times. 5 times without attractors and 5 times with them. then you would have results to work with.

does make sense if you read the rest, you try both and go for the rig that gets the most bites, no point in using lug worm when the fish are feeding on crab.

I was always a scent man more than a bead man but there must be something to them. I often hear anglers say they use beads when fishing is very slow, I don't know enough about the colours to comment on which is best, but I did hear a good friend of mine say the pearl beads are best for flatties in his opinion. It looks like you will have to go down the trial and error route buddy.

Tried both simultaneously with two rods in a spot with lots of small flatties, just out of curiosity many moons ago.
The rigs with the beads out fished the plain rigs at least three to one.
As a previous poster said though, it may also have more to do with conditions than anything else...... Just dunno.......

to be honest few years iv been shore fishing iv used them on occasions (beads) and alot i havent .... i dont think they make a difference ....

The auld bead debate "to use or not to use" is the question. Use whatever gives you confidence, I use beads sometimes not because I think the fish might like to eat them, but because for some reason it gives me confidence in my end gear. Fish don't eat hooks either but I've never caught one without a hook Well literally!!!
