I originally posted this in reply to a shore angling report but it's probably more appropriate here. To avoid forgetting your measuring stick or tape, attach some self-adhesive measuring tape to your rods. It comes in metric and imperial, lasts well and is dirt cheap so replacing it isn't a problem.
