Running ledger rig, 6 to 10 feet of line ending in a small treble hook. Snag one prong of the treble in the joey's snout and lower it carefully over the side to make sure it doesn't tangle into a ball. Don't rest the rod against the gunnell when you're fishing or a decent sized Bass will have it tipped up and overboard in a blink when he hits the joey.

I had to YouTube bridle rig - looks interesting, if a lot more fiddly - having to have a baitneedle and supply of elastic bands to hand. Never tried it but might be worth a go if your macks are bigger than joey sized.

have had good pollock and cod with live launce out in the boat size 2/0 hook through the top lip ,fished like a jellyworm with a long trace 7-10 feet long and just let the lead bounce along the bottom
