Hi fishface i tried the salted lug method. I got the salt in aldi.3 tubs was enough. 45cent a tub. :) I got a small bucket with a lid . OR a old sweet tin would do.I put in a small layer of salt in the bottom of the bucket . Put in a layer of lug continue till lug is covered and all in salt. Seel the tin and leave them for 5 to 8 days. or longer . they will shrink a lot so bigger lug is better. I removed them from salt and i wrap them in news paper and froze them. i spread out the the salt because its damp from soaking the moisture out of the lug and when dry it was good to salt the next bunch of lug. hope this helps.

i used my salted lug for the first time the other night and had a few flats and a good load of coalies on them.
when poeple say they shrink its an understatement, think it effected the size of the fish too cos they were all tiny  .
i pinched off the tails and left about 10mm of it. i used cheap table salt and it worked fine. a baiting needle is handy when using them tho as their not too easy to hook up.
just put a layer of salt in a large tupperware box, a layer of lug, more salt, more lug etc, make sure the lid is sealed properly and no moisture can get in. when they were dried up i took out the salt washed and dried the lid and popped them back in till they were to be used.
heres the final result, as you can see a bolognse jar is handy for keeping them
