Large baits work well in the Estuary as the crabs are ripping the bait apart while it is in the water spreading the sent.

This is perfect example of how and when to use a pully rig and big baits. The pully was designed to get big fish in over rough ground without getting snagged.

On the west waterford/east cork beaches there is no need for huge baits and pully rigs for ray because there are not infestations of crabs and there is not rough ground to pull fish in over.

This subject has gone from fishing a particular area to "well this is how I catch them".
It would be interesting to know how many that have posted alternative techniques and baits on this thread have actually caught a ray in the area asked about.

It's more a case of how people choose to read the OP, I read it as primarily(as this is how the wording starts) "I want to target ray" Location is secondary in the OPs request therfore in my very humble opinion all the replies are valid and not only the select few who fish in the particular location :D

I wouldn't worry about it to much. It was more a dig at me than anything constructive

garryvoe has a very long beach and when the tide is low it is obvious to see where you can fish on large sandy ground! plus if there are a few lads fishing next to each other using similiar baits theres no need for big baits as scent trail would be enough!!!!!!!!
