Hi there about to try spinning this year and got loads of bits and lures.
Some lures are very light and would cast poorly i can use lead heads on them but was told to use a small weight.
Do you know of a link that shows such a rig made up and will fireing such a weight behind the lure affect its swim back and put of fish.

Very popular on the continent and now becoming much used over here is a bubble float called a 'Bulrag'. Placed between the end of your line and the lure it gives the extra weight to punch a light lure out. Basically a bubble float with two swivels attached. One goes on the end of your line and the other to a length of line which then connects to the lure, Sandeel or whatever. Veals in the UK do them for £3.99 for the 30 grm and £4.99 for the 40 grm. Alternatively you can use the Welsh tried and tested method of a similar set-up but with a Jiff Lemon container instead of the Bulrag. You can weight the Lemon with candlewax. Same connection method as the Bulrag (attach a couple of swivels through the cap of the lemon) and use a castable length of line between the lemon and the lure. Six feet shouldn't be a problem. You can free-line this way also with live bait. Hope it helps.

Mike Thrussel has an intresting article on using power balls aka bouncy balls to add a bit of weight to the cast .. have tried it myself and it does work. poundstretcher etc sell the bouncy balls ...

power balls aka bouncy balls
I read that before, was he referring to what some people call "ping pong" balls as in the solid rubber ones?
Pookie,
While you're on Mike Thrussels site you should read the rest of the lure fishing articles:

He's referring to the hard rubber balls that kids buy the ones that bounce about 20' into the air.... usually multi coloured with glitter etc in them...

Hi Pookie.
Place a 1 oz lead on your main line, put a bead between that and the knot holding the snap on ot whatever link used. Then about I meter of line attach a 3/0 hook to one end and a swivel at the other. attach to main line and place a jelly worm or back strip of mackerel on the hook. Then cast or just let the line out with the drift of the boat. When you have judged it has gone far enough, start reeling in at a slow speed, if a fish takes, don't strike, keep reeling at the same speed. The fish will hook it's self. If after a while no fish appear, speed up the retreive. If they dont appear then move to anothe mark. You can imploy the same method from rocks on the shore.

What colour jelly worm do you find works best when shore spinning? Do you ever try different colours (if unsuccessful at first) at a particular mark before moving on.

I tried a similar set up to this recently and found the line to the jelly eel coming in wrapped around the weight and mainline. While it didn't happen all the time it certainly happended a lot. It was probably more frustrating because of the complete and utter dearth of fish  .

I a short and srtong line is used, it wont tangle.
Usually a black with a red tail, Sometimes the rule is a bright lure on a bright day and a dark on the dull day
