You're great at turning up these sites GF.... these should be very handy for fishing rotten bottom rigs. At the moment I'm using beach stones wrapped up in a bit of onion bag but the sandsinkers look a bit more aerodynamic for casting

Good idea. You'd probly want to wet them and weigh them before you seal them. If you seal them dry then you wont' have an acurate weight because it will increase when it hits the water so will be alot heavier on the next cast.

not sure if sand is heavy enough but you can always fill the bag with lead shot

It reminded me of something I read a while back and just realized what it was; in an old Angling Times book 'Sea Fishing in Dorset' (pub.1960), the author Hugh Stoker details how to make a "sandbag sinker" for dealing with the more snaggy marks in the area:

'...to avoid losing tackle it is advisable to use a sinker made from a 6 in length of bicycle tyre inner tube filled with wet sand and tied firmly at either end. This "sandbag sinker" will swim to the surface when retrieved briskly.'
