Rig building station

Sun May 17, 2009 3:33 pm

Alright, I had the idea after a marathon rig building session of making a station that would allow me to build rigs with a minimum of fuss. Basically its a plank of wood that might or might not be foldable (for bigger rigs) with movable blocks to hold the hooks and swivels. I have a rough one drawn up that I'll post later when I'm able to scan it in. The idea would be that it holds the hooks so tying is easier, and that it will make all the different rigs the same size. It can be adjusted for different ones, like pulley, 2 hook flapper etc. Has anyone seen anything like this? Any advice??

I am also interested in this - Its to have customised and cheaper rigs.

Thats basically the plan. I've costed it and reckon I could make it for around €15 or so. It would be more if I go ahead and put small vices on to hold hooks. My original idea was to do that with small screw in loops to sit the hook in the bend to provide the tention. I'll put up a drawing asap.

Sort of mate. I've just finished the technical drawing with the specs. Its a single piece of wood with 2 fixed end blocks to hold the main swivels then with 4 movable blocks in the middle and 8 positions for different rigs. I'll post the drawing as soon as I can scan it. The internet doesn't exist in Rathmines for my house so I'll have to use the cafe I'm in now. Should have it built by the end of the week after possible suggestions from others on the site.

I have a similar idea constructed its the gemini ones shown but they are adjustable on a plank of wood.

Finally got round to doing the station. Took about an hour and did the first few rigs on it today. I have to say it makes it so easy to tie on the hooks and terminal tackle. It's all fixed stations with different settings for different rigs. Pics below. Cost €20 in the end.
