Hi all,
just a quick question regarding my silva headlamp. Its about 18months old and has been a godsend, however whilst fishing the other night it just went dead.I thought it might be the battery but when i went to recharge it charged up to full within an hour.
My thinking is it may be a bulb as no wires are loose[that i can see].If it is the bulb where can i get a spare and how do i go about taking the headpiece apart within breaking it as it appears delicate and im all fingers.
Any other ideas as to what maybe wrong please don't hesititate to drop me a few ideas.
Thanks

more than likely broken wires
the bulb is unreplaceable.
the lx version has been giving loads a problems so i here.
the l1 seems more reliable

as john said im sure its a broken wire, down at the shroud at the battery terminal

get yerself a voltage meter with an open circuit checker on it (buzzer).
just hold it at both ends of wire/terminals and it will beep telling you its ok.
No beep means a problem.
Use it to check if the bulbs have blown...
Also it will tell you the voltage of your batteries even tip light batteries.
Their a great tool and cheap to buy now... i think lidl had them.....
Dont know the lamp bulb your using but i buy halogen E10 bulbs from...
http://www.lampco.co.uk/results.asp?pag ... type=TorchOther types dere too... hope this helps.....

Please tell me yere all joking about the bulbs been irreplaceable, what a joke.I paid 160yoyo for this as it was been called the dogs whats it

.I'm fuming here as i have been xtra careful with this light as it cost so much, how in gods name can wires have come loose

,everthing looks sealed up good and proper.
Cheers dunner for the tip on checking the output but to be honest is there any point it sounds like the headpiece has had it,the battery is fine[green light] on the adapter.I'm astounded that in this day and age you cant get a spare bulb what an f......n rip off
Looks like i'll be bringing out my wonky petzl once again,at least that can stand up to the rigours of outdoor life on the beach.
Cheers all

sorry to hear that mate... for what its worth.. i have a petzl and i bought a high out put 4,000MAH battery and some curly cable, crimps and some high lumens halogen bulbs and made a cracking good head torch out of what was a basic one and i have it years now.
Fully discharge the batt. and fully charge it EVERY time to get long lasting results.
If you decide to go down that road.....
Remember, that to go too high on an output wattage/voltage could result in a melted head piece, so be careful.........

Hi,
Same happened mine awhile back.........
Email Silva uk at
info@silva.ltd.ukTell them you bought it while on holiday in the uk in january (if they ask you don't remember the name of the store) tell them it just stopped working 2 days ago ask them where do you send it to have it repaired or replaced.
They will email you back with there address, send it to them and they will send you out a new one.

Thanks lads,
might have it sorted by the weekend.I showed it to an electrician here at work and guess what the blasted thing works if you kink the wires to one particular side, sad but true,he will have a look at it and see if he can rectify the problem.

when he rectifies make sure he uses, heat shrink (elec heatshrink) for the joint he will have to make, to make the joint water proof and to avoid corrosion from the salt,,, insulation tape is useless here,,,
good luck with it

Its a miracle,
the silva has done a lazorus, its burning brightly once again. But having said that it looks as if its been mauled by a pit bull with all the tape on it.The main thing is that it can be used again, but for however long.
First test will be a night session of bait collecting in the next few nights.

Hi again,
bad news im afraid as of last night at 21.20 my headlamp passed away.It had been on the road to recovery and all looked well but as i was packing away after a half decent session,THE CABABLE SNAPPED AGAIN

.
I'm not going to whinge about it as i've learned my lesson no more cabables on any further headlamps i buy.
