how does everyone cut their squid

i normally cut it into strips for pollack and coalies, chunks for codling, cut it in half for doggies and cut the tentacles off and stick them on a size 6 for flatties

ya ever used the tenticles i found they work quite well especially for flounders and some dabs on 'em

i was using the tentacles on ballycotton pier a while back. i had 2/0 hooks with a little mack and then the tentacles. it looked very realistic in the water. the doggies seemed to love them. 3 of us fishing and we had a dog on almost every 2nd cast. some good sized ones too.

using single tentagles on size 6 is good for flounders and using them 2 tip off lug worm is good.

depends on the target species - float fishing for mackerel and pollack I'd cut a very long thin strip using a scissors. beach stuff I usually use a knife and cut a wider strip to tip lug etc. Day time I'd say the shape is more important, nighttime the scent trail is, probably.
I was using whole small calamari south of Courtown in December and the whiting were swallowing the things entirely. But that's whiting for you - they'll take anything when they're feeding. Even themselves.
