Joining Braid to Braid

Mon Feb 18, 2008 3:51 pm

Anyone know the best knot to join the two...I Need it to be very strong as we will be fishing in Norway next week !!!!

I use double grinners, maybe even triple...ive had tope caught using double grinners, braid to mono...which is harder than braid to braid..so u should be fine using that...best of luck buddy

Thanks for that Mr G ...I use the albright knot for mono to braid but wasn't to sure about braid to braid !!

Hi Paul,

I've tried the double grinner route..... No use, I've also had tope on this outfit, but the knot parted under moderate tension after only a little while.

I am still looking for a knot, so if you find one please post here. I picked up a bulk spook of Stren Microfuse (1100 yards) So I just spooled the whole reel.....

Kevin,

Yeah i've just tested that knot and there is no way it will stand up to Norway's test.I want to join 125yds braid onto 300 yds of braid but I cannot seem to find a knot anywhere on the www. HELP !!!!!

Try the Double Grinner with six turns per side, works for me.

useless with names of knots but il try describe what i do.

i tied a bemini twist in the line already on the reel and then used whatever the knot u use for attacking hooks to snoods is called.. think its called a grinner knot.

havent had any problems with it. used it last year in cahore fishing for ray and huss and had no problems with it.

forgot to mention the spider hitch has to go in mainline first, then use the double or triple grinner... tie the spider hitch extra strong with a few more turns...

Re braid

I find the double grinner works very well, the one thing you need to make sure of is that the two ends of the knot pull together correctly, any overlaps will weaken the knot for sure.

JAYSUS its seems to very early going to norway.
i would be more concearned about how to keep warm this time of year  it should be nice and cold.
i dont think the fishing really kicks in untill around april.
all the best and tight lines.
dont for get to post the results
if you know how to join braid to mono you could always use a patch line between the two . what i mean is use say about 20ft of mono line between the two braids this will also act as a shock absorber when wou catch a monster in seriousley deep water.

grinner to grinner with 10 turns on each side are you using greasy braid like powerpro they are more prone to slipping especialy the lighter ones

Tue Feb 19, 2008 11:21 am

I had my double grinner slipping with Power pro... only after a few fish though.... so keep an eye on it.

paul,

if i was going all the way to norway i would spool the reel with new braid. A big fish thrashing and lunging on the line will find any weakness and smash it there.
in my view it would be false economy to save a few quid on the braid and then lose a fish

if you do decide to risk it, i reckon a meter of mono between the braids would be best.

Cheers for the tips lads as I posted above I have joined 125yds on to 300 yds using back to back uni's I'll keep an eye on the knot but I have tested it on 15lb drag and it seems to be fine.

If all else fails I'll reattach in Norway using a length of 50lb Mono !!!

greetings from California,
if you have room for one more, i thought i'd jump in and throw in my 2 cents. out here on the west coast we tend to join braid to braid with albright when the diameters are very different, say 130lb on the spool with 50lb leader. this is how i'll tie for my bottom fishing trips (350ft depth), actually - 130 braid to 25yd of 50 braid to 5 ft of 50 mono to soften the initial strike.

for all purpose join most anglers favor the double uni knots, looks like they're called the double grinner?

just out of curiosity, what are you fishing for in norway? what tackle are you using?

edit: here's a link to several popular knots we use out here. http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishi ... dknots.com[/url]
