So fish activity should be high according to these. There seems to be a pattern of high activities and big tides around new and full moons. I suppose those are parameters used when calculating the activity.

hi J.D.
the cunnigar shoud fish ok. if the weather was favorable it can be a fish a cast/bass/bream/g,g,mullet.
the eve. S.A.I. fished there last yr. was very poor, only 10/12 small bass + the langer with the nets.
at a guess 15/20 s.a.i. members fishing the cortaz method  under ideal conditions between 50 and 200 bass/bream.
clonea, again if conditions were good same with ballyquin.
a safe bet would be to plan to meet in say the cunn. car park if conditions were deemed unsuitable, then both clonea/ballyquin beaches are only 10 mins away.

The plan is to fish a comp on a beach, say clonea or Ballyquinn on the 16th, then have a meet on the Cunnigar on the 17thg.

how was the fishing?
i was piking on saturday, good moon phase but the poor weather and water conditions negated any benefits from the moon.
muddy water after the rain last week, -3 in my equation, very sunny -3, cold water due to cold rain influx -2, pressure falling -2.
overall outlook for the day was +1 (not great) even at the trigger times the score only rose to +4 (stil not great), just had three jacks up to 7lbs which was a poor result for a lot of effort

poor to say the least, 3 small bass for a lot of efford.clear/sun/n.w. wind :(
yesterdays weather conditions were "perfect", overcast with the wind freshering from the south east.
adam have you noted the amount of larger fish taked on the day of first/last quarter. fewer but bigger fish.
goin fishen at 2 or 3 today big surf 5 meter very wet/windy expectin to get a few.

i noiced when i looked back that a lot of big fish were caught on the day of full, first, last quarter and new moon (what i would call the peak days). not every peak day produced a really big fish. but nearly all the bigger fish came on peak days.
some of them were in big catches, but these were mostly shoaling fish like tench, wrasse and roach. the bigger predators seemed to come on peak days when not much alse was happening. both my own and eoins best pike came on peak days when only one other small pike and the odd perch was caught. both near trigger times too.

Lads so big tides effect the fishing??? and do the moon phases effect fishing during the day????
Wed Feb 21, 2007 12:49 pm
Lads,
Here's a lovely application for moon phases

Looking over my records form last year, they're not the be all and end all but there definitely does seem to be some correlation and moon phases are worth keeping an eye on...

having read all cortaz's records i was quite interested in how that related to my fishing in scotland.
turns out that here we also see peaks and troughs that coincide with the moon and tide phases.
remembering that freak weather conditions will blow away all theories i have found that 2 periods that were best for catch numbers were the no(new) and full moons. top time for the few specimen fish caught was the new moon.
i have diaries going back to the 90's ....
all that said nothing is stranger than fish....

Pardon my ignorance but what are the sun & moon transit and where can you find times for each?

it has taken me two attempts to register so here goes.
I was with a guide in Wexford last year (Jim Hendrick) for two days saltwater fly fishing. He had a database with 3400 fishing entries in it with twenty differnet variables (moon, tide, wind etc). This data is sorted any way he wnats. He also has the data from three other guides in the UK and europe and they have combined it to one super database. Over 10,000 fishing entries. A lot of waht is said here is wahts in his database but the he only makes it available ot customers who spend a week fishing with him. Its really incredible whats on the reports and i have never seen anything like it before. I suppose he has to catch fish every day though for his clients, a really intelligent guy to fish with too.
