i forgot my thermal socks tuesday night and had to pack up after an hour as my toes had gone beyond cold and were starting to hurt. i sat in the car then for 10mins with my wellies and socks off and the COLD air on my toes to warm them up. wont make that mistake again in -2c.

I know what you mean.... I found out I had a hole in me waders the hard way... luckily the sea angling centre in Courtown had some neoprene socks... otherwise I might be minus a few toes...:)

well worth getting a pair and keeping them handy.

As I found out today, don't rest your rod on the back of your car and then reverse over it. It tends to not cast as well afterwards

Re: Fishing Trip Boo-Boos: To Avoid

If the rod section joins on a new 200euro spinning rod are loosening when you cast, its best not to ignore it. Otherwise when you do catch a nice bass and try to land it the join will snap when you put some pressure on it because one bit isnt properly fitted in the other    ,
And whats more the bass will fall off the hook and swim away happily

Best to give the section join a rub with a candle to stiffen it before you take it out.
At least thats what i'd do

put my favorite 3 piece rod in the boot beside a land rover gearbox i'd just bought, but hadnt moved cus it was too heavy,

wife takes Landy to get the kids from school - gearbox rolls over - top section of rod goes snap.

spent a few hrs on the internet - finally traced a new top section - credit card got involved and finally arrived.

arrived at mark, with favorite rod, put shiny new top section on - then went to put the mid section on to the butt - heard funny sound - bent the rod - bloody big split in the middle section  !!!! dont know how id missed it - now I am waiting to see if the supplier also has a mid section for my years out of production rod - great fun!!!!

oh heres another reciepe for disaster

- arrive at fishing mark in wifes car- be appalled at left behind bags and packets of partially used bait, tidy up mess, put in car - generally feel morally superior and good samaritanish, drive home, empty gear out of wifes car, ....forget bag of smelly rancid gick, leave car parked in sunny driveway for few days, .............

sat down on rocks in tramore a few years back.
set up a spinnin rod and put aside an ambassadeur multiplier i had just bought 2nd hand.
when it was time to leave i left it where it sat.
realised not 10 minutes later and went back.
apparently someone had arrived to fish and left without setting up
i hadnt even used it
