if it was the cold dry east wind from europe then it kills the fishin, the longer its there the worse the fishin gets...........not this time 8) soft and mild in off the atlantic....hopefully with fog.......sunday southeast wind :) iam expecting 20 bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Art,
What's the best moonphase...the rise or the set?
Fri May 02, 2008 9:32 am
pat, when its in transit (directly overhead) and again 12+when it directly underfoot.
Put it to the test on monday, if ye can fish from 12/2.30pm.

Unfortunately, I'll be at work Art. However, it was MT1 I found best on one particular boat mark last year. You could almost set you watch by it.

Hi Cortaz...Just dug through 11 pages of this thread one of the most interesting pieces i've ever read..Im pretty new to shore/estuary fishing (mostly for bass) and have had terrible luck over the last year. I just found this site the other day and hoping things will change.
I was wondering if you could give me any tips on days/times to fish around wicklow this month and also Im heading to wexford to do a bit of spinning on sat.
I will eventually work out the moon, rise/set times myself but will have to study it a good bit first :)
Many Thanks
Paulie

try this site, it gives you all the rise and set times aswell as the major transits.
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.php
use time zone one hour west of greenwich , i have found its more accurate
wicklow is about N53 05 W6 03
wexford is N52 18 W6 22
you can get the moon phases here, you can then plan your month.
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/MoonPhase.php
all you need in two handy sites and easy to use. fish the transits if you can and especially if they both fall close to the low light periods of dawn or dusk.
if you get transit times at the low light periods close to dawn or dusk, close to new or full moon times and good weather conditions, with a good moon phase then it can be spot on.
the moon transits around the may full moon are all early morning so if i was going myself and i could make both i would be fishing dawn (3-6am)on the 20th and 21st and then i would be back out at 1.30 - 4 in the afternoon.
would that be close to your info art or are our moon tables giving us different times?

almost exactly the same adam, have found that the last M.T. before the moon is "new" is the single best time of the month . i also think that the close together these 2 times are (they occour within 12 hrs. of each other once a month) the better the fishin, have fished 3 times in last few yrs. when both M.T/N.M. fell whitin the same hour with some outstanding catches, the most recent april 07, clonea, with coaster/mr green, m.t./n.m. were both around midnite. we had 40+ bass, inc. several dubbel shots of 3/5lb. fish, .... another. june 03 or 04?. both occuring about 2.30 a.m. first 6 casts 3,2,2,2,1,1 = 11 bass. inc. a x 3 shot of 3,4,5,lb.fish, i went home have depressed :( what was the point!!!. i shoud add that i was in 3 feet of water with 1,000s bass around, thought at one point i was goin to get eaten alive.... i have also found that the mooncycle eather full or new occuring nearest to "midsummer" june 21/22st. can produce the best/ most consistant fishin of yr. the last set of there i fished for 4 afternoon sessions for about 100 bass and 30 bream 1 session with jim from cork 12 giltheads/20+bass in 90 mins.. I am also theres an awful lot more to be learnt/understood.????... like i know theres "something" in the pre.dawn/dawn for 2/3 days after a full moon??????????but what???? and then what about??

paulie, sat. not very good :( monday would offer a better chance, as for the rest of the month, from the 18th. till 23/4th. if you are spinnin fish eather the dawn or dusk, think if you fished a known hotspot on the eve. of the 22st./5, "weather permitting" from 7.30/10.30 you might get lucky
