Have a look at this lads, and no, its not me selling it. Bought one of these the other day and after only having used it once was mightily impressed. This is a steal at that price.....

Hi Pete,

Whats the recamended casting weight for these rods? I noticed that you gave "De Wall" a bash with the rod. How did it handle the required distance cast?

4-8ozs Kev, cast a 7oz I think it was with a full peeler well over 130-140 yards with a simple overhead thump into the air . No mess, no fussing. I was using braid which helped. I havent put my shoulders into casting it TBH but I would imagine its capable of ferocious distances when pressed, especially teamed with braid. I used 30lb power pro. It was very handy when it came to winching fish in over the reef, that extra couple of feet fairly made a difference.

how is gonin peter im new to this site i noticed in your post you mentioned using braid ive been trying to get a bit more diatance in my cast would you recomend the braid and is there any disadvantages in using the braid any advice would be appreciated thanks st john.

Howya St. John, Beauty of braid is you can use ridiculously low diameters whilst still retaining breaking strain. The easiest way anyone can increase their casting distance is simply by taking the long rod and fixed spool reel loaded with 20-30lb braid (you still use shockleaders for distance stuff...) Simple overhead chucks with this kind of set up can give phenomenal distances. Imagine casting your 4/5 oz lead with 6lb line on your reel..... It flies. Bite detection when using braid is fantastic due to its lack of stretch. Playing a fish is magnified because of the same reason.

So, why arent we all using it....?

Takes a serious bit of getting used to on a multiplier, stick with it on FS reels. Birds nests are sorted with scissors not patience.

Its expensive, as much as 25-30 euro for 150m depending on brand.

Wind knots on cheaper brands.

Lack of stretch means you can sometimes bump fish off or rip out light hook holds.

Touch a rock with your braided line under tension and it will part.

Get your fingers in the wrong place at the wrong time and it will slice you like cheesewire.

On saying that, braid definitely has a place in virtually everyones armoury but its not the be all and end all either. One thing to note, you get what you pay for, avoid cheapo braids like the plague.

Good idea mate, too dear to waste it. Try 15-20lb braid for spinning...its phenomenal. Welcome to the site BTW.

I bought one of these rods on e-bay on 19th |October. However, there is still no sign of it and it is now the 4th December.
I have written to Stephen Wilson several times and he is blaming the Royal Post.

It would make me nervous about using this service again

Still waiting for mine too but am not too worried to be honest.
The guy has been in touch with me constantly & said he will ship via TNT at his own cost once he gets it back from Heathrow.

I'm sure he will give you a refund if you ask.

I'll give him a shout today to see what the story is & post the results

Yes I get the feeling that he is trustworthy myself

This mightn't help much but I contacted this guy myself a couple of weeks ago a short while after this post went up (seemingly like a few others here did too ).
What he told me was he had one left but it wasn't for sale at present just incase problemes araised with others so he could exchange. Because he said this to a guy (me) he's not getting business from (there4 no need to impress) it gave the impression that he might do his best to sort any other problems. Doesn't exactly help but tought I'd say anyways

must checkwith a mate and see if it was the same seller he got a reel from, he had to constantly nag the seller to send it after he had already taken the money for the sale, eventually got it 4 weeks later.

Hi Kleeneze - did you get a longbeam from him?
I paid for one in October & have had all sorts of flapping around - allegedly it got stopped in Heathrow & he had no other rods he could send me.
I said I wanted a refund & now I have to wait until the royal mail refund him before I get my money back. (I checked this out & this is legally the case)
I'm seriously drunk off with this dude but if he sent you a rod that changes things as he told me he had none.....

This is my first bad EBay experience - moral of the story - don't buy from people with low feedback as generally they havent got a clue...
